I think I'd do the same thing as you, Al ... I'd go looking. I'd pause to talk to my mother's parents ... it's been so long since we were together. I'd love to show Pop-Pop Smith how healthy I am now, that I finally have my asthma under control. I'd tell Mom-Mom that I still have the puzzle we put together when I was five, before she passed away.

I'd see my father's father, too, and we'd probably talk about Nana, the cabin ... and my father.

And I'd have to move on. Seeing him would remind me ... that what I'm really doing is looking for my father. I'd do anything to slip my hand into his, get one of his famous bear-hugs, hear that deep laugh and see the twinkle in his hazel eyes.

But if I found him there, I don't think I'd come back in the morning.

I guess my best choice would be to visit my Mom and tell her how much I love her and how much influence she had on shaping my character. Then I would tell her about the grand children she never saw, I would take snapshots along to show her each of them from birth on. Oh, she would love that. And so would I.
