build'n stuff again--bird zapper----!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well the old hillbilly has done an built another gizmotchie. A bird zapper-motchie. It's programmed for starlings and sparrows. Built on a pole about 10 ft tall and mounted alongside another post by the shop. This is prime territory for it's intended victims. My songbirds won't be harmed because they don't go out in this area. The concept is the same as the rat kill'r but made completely different. It uses a smaller fan capacitor that's 4 uf and 370 volts ac. It'll do--if it don't I found another cap that's bigger even than the rat kill'r. 55mfd and 440 volts. That one is big enough to kill a cow! I'll take some picts and and post on the cs pict page. Matt.24:44

A little short on grocerys at your house, Hoot?

Yay for hoot!

I've been wanting to do something like this for quite some time but havn't been sure on how to go about it. I've got a starling problem like you wouldn't believe!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of your device, hoot.

Mitch! I'm sorry that you think I have to "peddle my wares" on this fine site. I have plenty of groceries and cash for ourselves and even some to share with others. I suppose you're implying that I'm willing to build a snake killer for Suzy in Bama [or any other readers on here] for cash. I'll send it to her for free if she wants one. If you want one to try out send me your snail mail addy and i'll send you one too--FOR FREE! I'll even pay the postage!!!

My lot in life is to help others. I don't work for wages when I help others out. I am repaid by my Father in heaven. I'm livin on borrowed time anyhow so why not make the best of my remaining time on earth by helping others! I don't suppose you can understand all this but that's ok. I don't have to answer to you or any other mortal being about how I spend my remaining time. I think you mentioned something about me "grabbing attention". You bet! If folks read my stuff then I have an opportunity to witness to them about the Love of Jesus Christ.

If others on this forum wants me to quit posting on here, I'll move my witness elsewhere. Old hoot gibson-a Servant of the Most High and Almighty God. Matt.24:44

Seems to me, it 'ud be a lotta work to pluck an' fix them little fellers!

-- Jer (neljer@txcyber.com), March 30, 2001.

Hoot, please don't leave, it just seems that some people almost have a need to be mean. I'm just sorry they can't simply enjoy all the sharing that goes on here and learn to be nice. Probably just ignoring all the remarks would be best as those types are the ones that seem to always be "grabbing" for the attention.

I agree with Jer, looks like a lot of work (but my brother was stationed in Italy and claims thats what they made spaghetti sauce out of). But seriously Hoot, just remember that making a strong stand for Christ is bound to cause some trouble now and then - so don't sweat the small stuff. And realize that you have a great ministry here - don't give up, just keep magnifying the King of Kings! Cynthia

Don't stop posting to the forum, hoot. You have just as much right to post here as anyone else. :-)

And if you're making these things to sell, that's great! There's nothing wrong with free enterprise, IMO. You're filling a need by designing and building these things and getting them out to people who want them. To that I say: BRAVO!

Who knows, maybe I'll end up buying one of these bird zappers from you, too. With my limited knowledge of capacitors and electricity, it probably would be much safer in the long run. I don't think my wife would appreciate me electrocuting myself. I wouldn't appreciate it much either for that matter! ;-)

Good luck in getting the capactor size right. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

P.S. - Don't let Mitch's posts get to you. I don't know why he's doggin you but just pay him no mind.

In all fairness to Mitch, my first thot was he was talking about eating the sparrows and starlings. Mitch can clarify if he wants.

-- john (natlivent@pcpros.net), March 31, 2001.

I AGREE IT LOOKS LIKE HE WAS TEASING. IT WAS ONLY ONE LINE WITH NO MENTION OF GRABBING ATTENTION. HE CAN CLARIFY HIS INTENTIONS THO. AND FEEL FREE TO MOVE ON IF THATS WHAT YOU WANT. WE ENJOY YOUR HOMEY POST BUT WE'LL NOT HOLD YOU PRISONER

Hoot, my apoligies if I have ruffeled your feathers, I have an arrid sense of humor. I too am on borrowed time with congestive heart failure, diabetes. ostio mylitis, and phimosis, thats 17 pill each day. If you will notice a couple of other people agreed with the thoughts about eating the little birds. To get them to go away just remove whatever attracts them, or if their in a building controled smoke works excelent. And when you get to heaven what are you going to tell HIM when HE asks "Why were you destroying MY little creatures".

I probably missed something, but I am trying to figure out how you are able to keep the songbirds out of this device.

It sounds to me like there is a sufficient amount of firepower here to cremate a songbird, instantly or a little sooner than that.

Some folks on this baord get flinchy about cremating songbirds, if it is not done in a way that suits them.

I was just curious.....why do you need to "get rid" of the starlings and sparrows? Do they do some extreme amount of damage to your property, garden or whatever? I was just wondering what kind of problem you were having with them is all. No judgement, sarcasim etc. intended in any way, shape or form. :o)

-- Greenthumbelina (sck8107@aol.com), April 04, 2001.

Starlings are not native to North America - they were introduced in New York in 1890 and have since spread EVERYWHERE.

Starlings and sparrows compete with the bluebirds in my area for nesting cavities - they are known to destroy bluebird eggs or even kill the young birds.

I've tried shooing them away but they just keep coming back - and they bring their relatives with them! I've tried trapping them and that works for a while but their brothers soon catch on to the game.

They are nasty (but very clever) birds, IMO.

-- Jim Morris (prism@bevcomm.net), April 04, 2001.

I just lost my bluebird family to predators. My heart is hurting. I'm bout positive it was a sparrow. I'll kill every sparrow and starling I see on my property. The purple martins and bluebirds dont deserve to be prey to sparrows and starlings.
