Livin in the Country. [Christian witness enclosed]

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Livin in the country has it's advantages that [IMHO] far outweigh the disadvantages. In the country I can do about anything I want from nothin to something. I can go for a walk without being concerned about a drive by shootin, gang violence or any one of another million things, more or less. The fresh country air is soothin to an old tired brain, sore ears, feet and arms. NO, don't suppose it has that kind of therapy embedded within it's gentle breeze but then again-maybe it does! I can hear the bird singin in the stillness of a warm spring afternoon as well as the quietness of an afternoon walkin in the snow in the dead of winter. I can build a garden to suit me--without trying to impress my neighbors. I don't have to keep up with the Jones's or Smiths's or anybody else for that matter. I can mow my big yard when I feel like it, I can raise my chickens, hogs, cows, goats or whatever I want, without "noise" from my neighbors. I choose not to have any stock right now but who knows---maybe this summer! If I want to build a fence around my yard I don't need a building permit. I realize that in some places even in the country a building permit is required. If I want I can dispose of groundhogs that are disrupting and destroying my farm, outbuildings and crops. I can also take care of snakes, rats, undesireable birds [boy! that will draw some critisim] that are messin all over the shop, vehicles and runnin off my songbirds. I can set on my front porch or back yard- under the growing pine trees and listen to my birds, look at the flowers growin alongside the house in the flower boxes of Lil Dumplins. I can also look at the wildflowers growin in the fencerow or front road ditch too. I'm not knockin the city way of life but it just "ain't" for Lil Dumplin and me. I've tried it before when I didn't have a choice and I disliked it I think more than about anything else I've ever done. When the opportunity arose--back to the stick for this old hillbilly. I hope NEVER to have to live in the city again! These simple everyday Blessings from the great "I AM THAT I AM" are appreciated beyond words by myself and my life's partner. I love people and love talkin to'm but---I also don't want too many neighbors. I like my privacy too much I guess. old hoot, the country dweller. Matt.24:44

Hoot,

I'm with you on the country livin', but I'll bet your probally like me and don't get to set and do nuthin too long. Around here, I learned the easiest way to lounge was leaning on a hoe handle and hope I could get to swinging before Lynn snuck up on me. I know God put my wife on this earth to keep me moving... and she does :>)

Hoot - You are SOOOOOOO RIGHT!!!!!! (And though I don't like killing things, its recently been brought to my attention that perhaps there ARE times.....)

Absolutely! Being out in the peace and quiet, enjoying my critters, doing as I please without criticism, no busybodies fussing about whether I poison my yard enough to keep it 'presentable', no hoards of little monsters swarming through the yard, trampling everything in their path... I don't miss city living a bit!
