I believe 5.5 will automatically encode SVCD for you. At least it does for VCD.

When the official release of version 5.5 is available it will only have mpeg-1 "encoding" available. You'll have to pay for and download a patch to enable mpeg-2 encoding. All other features will work (mpeg- 2 SVCD creation etc. But because of "licensing" constraints they have to pay royalties (or something) when doing any Mpeg-2 encoding. Mpeg- 1 does not have that licensing thing. Simply put, Mpeg-2 is an "owned" product and anyone using the encoding part is supposed to pay for it. Thus the people at Ahead software (Nero) have to pass that cost on to you. THEY have to pay for it.

If you are using the "beta" version (which I'm assuming you are as the final release has STILL not been offered) there are some problems with it. Those problems are probably the reason the final release has been delayed.

Will 5.5 make svcd menus? Is the svcd compliance improved (to get rid of the ff / rew problems on many standalones) ? Just wondering if anyone had heard anything about these. Thanks, Keitaro

I downloaded it, and it does. Try it out. Not sure about the second part though. Also, should most DVD players be able to read VCD's and/or SVCD's? If only one, which one?

I think i may have found the answer. I can burn ASF, DivX, MPG, WMV apparently in Nero. I've tested the encoding part and it seemed to go through. Hi Friends dont worry for converting from one formate to another format. All you need is the CD what you are copping should be run in VCD player or in DVD player right?. For this no need to buy the Nero SVCD Plugin. I will tell you one simple way. first collect the clips (the movi in any formate AVI or Mpg or any formate) and store in in one directory. Download the software (its free) "vcdgear307b15_gui" use this software and add all your files in that and Click create VCD Immage. Then use this immage in Nero to create a CD. This will work in all DVD and VCD Players..
