Ok, you scientifically minded souls. I know there can be negative effects on electrical grids from large solar flares. Any knowledge of whether they can affect alternative sources? And how? And which ones (power sources)? Sorry, I just have a naturally curious mind. : )

It is mainly the magnetic energy that causes problems on the earth's surface. It is primarily a function of the size of the power distribution lines.
