Moldy Maple Syrup

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

We made maple syrup for the first time this year, about 2 months ago. Opened a jar this morning and it had mold on the top. Were we supposed to treat the jars of syrup in a canner? All we did was pour the hot syrup into boiled jars, like you would with jelly.

David, I always process ours just enough to make it seal. usually that means just bringing the water to a boil and turning it off. I think you could probably scrap the mold off and process it still. I have had a jar get mold on the top and still be good.
