Guildenstern - or was it Lovenkrands?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

According to this morning's Journal the Toon are back on the trail of Danish striker, Peter Lovenkrands, who rejected the Toon in favour of Rangers last summer.

Apparently, several weeks ago Rangers fancied taking Stephen Glass on loan until the end of the season. During these conversations Lovendrands was discussed - presumably the Toon were seeking to bargain a permanent move for Glass in exchange for "something", with Lovenkrands being the obvious commodity. Ultimately, these negotiations broke down and Rangers signed Fabrice Fernandez from Fulham.

The Journal reports that Lovenkrand's move to Rangers has turned sour with persistent hamstring problems curtailing his progress. Indeed, he broke down again in a Reserve game on Monday, and Rangers boss Dick Advocaat, under pressure to rebuild his squad during the summer, is prepared to cut his losses on the player.

They go on:- BR remains an admirer of the young striker - and his dodgy hamstrings, no doubt - and there are no sentiments of ill-will towards him following his rejection of a move to SJP. The feeling is he was badly advised at the time(!) and would still be welcome at the Toon - at the right price, and dependant on his hamstring problems clearing up.

Hhmmm.

Hello Newcastle fans. I have had a lot of abusive mail from Newcastle fans.I was ill advised by my agent on a move to Newcastle. I would like to end my nightmare at Rangers. Would I be welcome in Newcastle?

Hardly in the Michael Bridges class. well, apart from the hamstrings, that is. Now, where did I put that barge pole?

PETER LOVENKRANDS broke down just eight minutes into his attempt at a comeback from injury tonight as his troublesome hamstring flared up yet again during an Under-21 game.

The young Danish winger came on as a half-time substitute during the 3-1 victory over Dundee United at Airdrie’s New Broomfield ground but limped off in agony in the 53rd minute clutching his right leg.

It is the second time Lovenkrands has failed to come back from this injury, his last effort being during the winter break when he also broke down during a friendly game against Uruguay Soccer Club in Florida.

So whaddaya think we'll pay for him? I say 6 or 7 mil. ;-)

would think £1.5 million would be a decent amount to risk. He could become another Van Nisterooy, woth £20 million, then again more likely he'll turn into another Adde Anderson worth next to nothing. Worth a risk though I reckon, especially if we have £30 million to gamle this season.

Don't think we'll pay a penny more than £1 million for him, possibly even less.

Why bother? Is he any better prospect than Shola? I've said it before and I'll continue to say it. We need 3 or 4 quality strikers - Shearer, Cort will be OK for starters (if they're fit enough to start). Then we need a proven quality player like Robbie Keane, Cole, Sheringham, Stewart or Bridges. With Sherarer and/or Cort, I'd even take SK from doon the road.

If that e-mail address that Rik gave us was Kosher then I'm afraid (or not) that I may have scuppered the deal after Celtic possed the Huns 6-2. I let him our Danish friend know exactly what I thought of him. From memory I believe it went "6-2 (expletive deleted)."

Hey, come to think of it he's due another today!
