tapes recorded in GL1 won't play in other cameras

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Editing DV Films : One Thread

I am a Student filmmaker. I recorded about half my film on a canon GL1. The footage i recorded will not play on other cameras. It sometimes says needs headcleaning but that is not the case. the sound also cracks and drops out and the picture pixelizes. I have tried the jvc gr-dvl500 and also the sony pd150. the tapes recorded on the sony and jvc playback fine on each other. If anyone has had this problem before or knows how to fix it. I would appreciate the help. Thank you

Yes, I have experienced the same problems. I have had a GL1 for about two years and a JVC HR-DVS1U for about 18 months. The playback of tapes on the JVC unit worked for a while, but then the sound started to get distorted. Currently, I cannot playback tapes on the JVC because of the sound distortion. Tapes recorded on the JVC unit, do play ok on the GL1.

Were you ever able to solve the problem you mention?

Paul

Having the same problem here with the GL1 and JVC HR-DVS1U. If you find a solution please let me know. I work at a college that has about 12 of the tape decks and 15 of the camcorders. Thanks.
