But the angel answered and said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. "He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you." Matthew 28:5-7

Hey Gayla,

How do you post a picture to the board. I have a neat one but don't know how to post.

-- gene (ekbaker@essex1.com), April 16, 2001.

I"m glad you have a neat post....the messy ones are a pain in the neck to paint. I'm assuming your "neat post" is pressure-treated, otherwise it won't last in a harse, critical environmental full of horse critics.

To make a post.

Start with a good-sized hole in the ground. Usually, you'll need at least 2-3" gap around the post for the concrete to settle into...but unless you're really going to get strong loads, more than 4" of concrete isn't needed.

Make sure your hole is also 2-3" deeper than the bottom post, it's best to lay some 1-2" stones in the bottom, but not essential. Then Lay the post in the hole, and pour in the base of concrete, align the post vertically, and get somebody to hold it.

Pour in the rest of the concrete, and tamp it down firmly, still holding the concrete vertically. (If you don't have one, you'll find a carpenter's level essential - an old-fashioned plumb bob is very difficult to use. Easiest of all are the "corner post" levels that let you attach a two-way level right to the post with a rubber band; with those you can check both right-left and forward-back angles at the same time continuously.) Double check the vertical alignment, fasten one or two braces to keep it aligned in both directions, then - before the concrete has begun to set, tamp the concrete again and smooth its surface with a slight crown AWAY from the post so the water will flow away from the post - this reduces the chance for rot.

Anyway...once the concrete has been tamped in place, you don't want to move the post until it sets completely - at least overnight, best if let to cure three days.

And with that - you have a post!

LOL @ Robert!

Gene, the HTML command for a picture is (img src=). Are you familiar with HTML? If not, can you give me the address of the picture? I'll try to post it for you. (Depends on whether it's a .gif file, etc.)

Gayla,

The pic is on my computer. I dont know if it is still on the web or not. I can send it to you if you like. I do know how to do attachments.

Robert,

Obviously you were not paying attention in grade school English grammar. The antecedent of "it" is "picture", in the previous sentence. "Post" cannot be the antecedent, since it is posterior to the pronoun, and besides (to be redundant)"post" is, in this instance, a verb, which would hardly be a proper antecedent, even if it were in a position to be one. So there.!!

Now, regarding you post on posting a post. I think that following your instructions would produce a fine post. And I shall be grateful for that information this summer when I will probably be installing some. Thanks for the helpful information.

Gayla, will send the pic to you to the email addy I have.

Antecedents?

No, no, no. Termites might eat'm; but most ants don't eat 'em.

YES!!!

Thanks Gayla,

Hobby Lobby ran that as a full page ad in the Ft. Wayne IN newspapers last year. I don't know if they did anything this year or not. They must have spent a bunch of money on it.
