I need help with a small engine. I have a 6 H.P craftsman motor on a chipper shredder. I need to get the chipper blades off of the bottom end of the crank shaft and I Don't know how There is a bolt through the bottom end of the blades that goes into the end of the crank shaft. I have taken it off. Now the question is...Are the blades screwed onto the crank shaft? Are they lined up with a key way?

I can not see the shaft to tell. I have cussed at if for two hours and I have used all of the cuss words I know...Help

Grant, the blades are probably just stuck from being on there so long. I doubt they are pressed on. Have you tried liquid wrench, WD- 40, or some other solvent? Let it work for a day or two, and try it again. Can you get to the blades with a gear puller? That would definitely take it off. Many auto parts stores, like Advance, will loan them to you. You pay a $20.00 deposit and get back your 20 bucks when you take the tool back.

Good luck with it,

I got it off with a puller. I just did not want to pry to hard until I knew if it was held on with a key or if it screwed on. Thanks

I had the same problem with the tines on my tiller. I had to heat and use a puller to get them off to replace seals. allso I'm a firm believer in never seize grease on everything just about. it will save alot of bad words when it has to come apart the next time. :)
