Where can I find newspaper articles on Haight Ashbury in 1968?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I am doing a research paper on the hippie culture on Haight Ashbury throughout the year of 1968. The paper is to be done on newspaper and magazine articles throughout that year. Do you have any suggestions as to where I could find information? I live in New Jersey, so I cannot get my hands on any San Fransisco papers from that time. Thanks, Lori

Maybe do better looking for 1967, Summer of Love in national publications. The local newspapers are the San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner. But both have changed ownership and the online data bases may not go back that far.

Also, try seaching out the "Berkeley Barb", the hippie newspaper of the era.

You should be able to get library microfilm of SF Chron and Examiner vic interlibrary loan. Call your local library.
