GSA Volleyball Schedule for 5/6/2001 **important**

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Carnegie Mellon University GSA Volleyball : One Thread

Hello Captains,

1. SCHEDULE: for May 6 at http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~gsa-vball/

2. TOURNAMENT: will be May 13. THIS ITEM REQUIRES A RESPONSE

Seriously, I know how you like to test me with your non-responsive nature, but this one really needs a response. There will be three divisions on the final tournament day, based on ranking. These fall on A,B,C lines with one exception:

RED DIVISION: A1 A2 B1 B5 WHITE DIVISION: B2 B3 B4 BLUE DIVISION: C1 C2 C4 C6

If you would like to compete in a different division, let me know. I will probably grant any request to compete in a higher division; however I will be very suspicious of requests for demotions. (exception: B5 may play in the white division if it desires). Please let me know if you want any changes. I NEED THIS INFORMATION BY SUNDAY MAY 6 at 23:59:59.

TIME: the tournament will take place in our usual Sunday evening time period, but BE PREPARED to stay multiple hours. It is a single elimination tournament, meaning your team plays matches until it loses a match, at which point you become THE WEAKEST LINK. Goodbye.

After the divisions are finalized on May 6, I will try to immediately post a tournament schedule. I will schedule everyone as compactly as possible, and our divisions are small, so I expect most teams will need to be in the gym for two consecutive hours at the most.

The winner of each division will receive CMU Intramural T-shirts, although they might not be available on the day of the tournament (oops). We'll see about that.

Cheerio.

It seems to me that B5 should be playing in the White Division, since they haven't played any of the other teams in the Red Division. Furthermore, since there are an odd number of teams, it's customary to give the highest ranked team a first-round bye. If B5 stays where it is, the bye goes to B2, B3, or B4. (And, presumably, my team would play them first round of finals while A2 and B1 scrapped it out.)

Ultimately, it's up to them, though. I certainly don't mind playing an extra game, so if it's more convenient to give someone else the bye, so be it.
