Egg Color ? (Brown eggs getting lighter)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am noticing that the color of my brown eggs is getting lighter. I have 20 barred rock laying hens and not all of the eggs have gotten lighter just about half. Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening

Response to Egg Color ?

I've noticed that my hen's eggs get lighter when they are stressed and if it's as hot there as it is here, that could be doing it. I don't think this is a scientific fact (don't want anyone yelling at me), but it's what I've observed with my girls.

Try feeding them cracked corn, this also makes the yolks a darker yellow. Daryll

Well, I thought I was the only one, but, I have a White Orpington that USED to lay brown eggs (shell color)and now only lays white. Do you suppose it is something in the feed? Sissy

This won't help a lot. I went through my poultry references. The only thing I can find is it is natural for the brown pigmentation to decrease during the laying season.
