Portrait of wifes' corpse

I read in something that in his home in Baltimore I think (or it might be some where else), their is a portrait of his wife and it was painted of her when she was dead. Is that true?

Nic,

It hardly seems likely. Virginia died on January 30, 1847 while they were living in Fordham, New York and she was laid to rest on February 2, 1847 in the Valentine family vault in the Dutch Reformed Church at Fordham. See the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore website for more information. Hardly much time for a portrait, don't you think?

Regards,

A picture(painting?) was done from her death mask that Poe willingly let someone make after she died. Poe held up very well at the time of the funeral comforted by his friends. But what happened to the mask?
