Can you say "Conflict of Interest"?

Well, I put this under political, but I could make an argument for environmental, or health, or probably some others! Here's a snippet:

Bush Names Monsanto Executive for Senior EPA Job

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An executive with Monsanto Co, a leading developer of biotech foods, has been nominated for the second-ranking job at the Environmental Protection Agency (news - web sites), the White House said on Tuesday.

Linda Fisher, who worked for the EPA for 10 years before heading Monsanto's Washington lobbying office, was nominated for the post of deputy administrator. Fisher also served on a U.S. Agriculture Department advisory committee on biotech foods.

One of the major issues currently before the EPA is a request from Aventis SA to approve a genetically- modified corn known as StarLink for human consumption. StarLink, a variety altered to repel pests, was barred from human food in 1998 due to concerns that it might trigger allergic reactions in some people."

There's more at: LINK Guess I'll post this on CS too, and see if it gets shot down. To me, Bush wants to put a fox in charge of the hen house. And we're the hens . . .

Oh boy, this is by far the scariest political thing I have seen in my life. Star Link is so small potatoes compared to some of the stuff Monsanto is up to. It was Monsanto and their war against the seed savers of the world that first jolted me out of my "safe haven" a couple of years ago and got me interested in the internet. This verges right on what I would call "evil".

Yep Joy-we're "finger lickin' good" alright. Guess I should just go munch on some starlink corn, have my allergic reaction and die right now. Get it over with. Yep great news.Corn is one of the thinks I developed a RECENT allergy to-know others that have had the same. This stuff is scary. Can't "recall" genes, can you?

Starlink is already showing up in nongmo corn seed."I'm SOOOO shocked! How could that be!Impossible!" sez the bioengineering firm. Have a page on it I stored. will try to dig it up.

And boy diane is right too.Tip of the iceberg.

Boy, I hate to be negative on this forum, but this is the kind of news item that depresses me more than anything else. Just get a feeling of helplessness. I never felt that the EPA was really there to "protect" the environment, more to act as a moderator. Guess we just have to see how it plays out.

diane- I have a homemade sign on my truck that says "Monsanto is Evil". I believe that with all my heart. I also have one that says "George W. Bush- Of the corporation By the corporation For the corporation" Ain't that the truth.
