Seems like this is the final version...Tobe 3:30PM

To voters of the Onteora School District,

We are candidates for the Board of Education who are determined to focus on education.

We wish to assist all students to get the most from their school experience. We seek to strengthen programs for average students needing help to meet more demanding state standards. We want smaller class sizes and modern textbooks. These will help all students and can be achieved in a fiscally responsible way.

Improving education must be the key work of the Onteora Board of Education. We support effective programs that can help raise student academic achievement. We want a return to summer Pre-K and summer elementary school that was eliminated in last year’s austerity budget. On-site computers and on-line technologies must continue to be integrated into the classrooms for more effective teaching.

Students need to have more electives. They need increased after school activities, in addition to our strong sports and music programs. The faculty and staff need more opportunities for curriculum and staff development. Onteora needs a long-term facilities plan to maintain safe and healthy buildings where our children can comfortably learn. Onteora needs a Board Code of Conduct that treats everyone with civility and respect -- administration, teachers, parents, students, staff, and the community. We seek a welcoming and trusting atmosphere between the board and the administration to achieve the most efficient and positive results for our students.

We will work to insure that all the district’s business is published on the agenda before each meeting. No more sudden proposals and votes late at night, when the Board members and the public are not expecting them.

This is a critical election. Some have said the future of the district is at stake. Plainly put, what has been happening on the Onteora Board of Education is quite alarming. We must restore integrity to the Onteora Board.

Our goal for Onteora is to offer the right educational program for each student in our district schools, at BOCES and in the world beyond. Please help us make Onteora truly excellent in the education of our children.

We seek your support on Election Day, May 15.

Meg Carey & Tom Rosato

Meg and Tom, do you have mini tape recorders for your pockets for Election Night, so that if anyone wishes to tell you where you may insert your Indian mascot you will be prepared?

"The Truth vs.Fred Perry" will be shown on Woodstock cable tv this Friday, 5/11, 7pm (Ruth Simpson's show), and on Olive/Shandaken cable on Monday, 5/14, 6-7pm, repeated 4x.

If anyone would like copies to spread around, please get in touch!

The premiere last Sat was a great success, over 100 people came, most stayed for more than one showing. A lively discussion, led by Donna Boundy took place between each showing, and Chris Johansen showed up, sat through 2 showings, said almost nothing, but took a tape home with him.

The official line from the scumbags is still: fp is telling the truth, everyone on the tape is lieing!!! Thus proving the existence of alternate universes......

Here, in our own forum, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the following crew of brave and dedicated people, who made "The Truth vs. Fred Perry" possible: •Donna, George, and Kofi Boundy •Tom Rosato •Barbara Boyce •Dennis Yerry •Gail Bradney •and Tobe Carey, intrepid video artist extrordinaire......

Alan Sussman faxed me my Motion to Dismiss yesterday. He carefully constructs the case for truth and ends like this:

"Mr Perry is a very controversial figure. He is not shy about speaking to the press to proclaim or justify his position regarding controversial matters. It is his right to do so. Likewise, I believe that it is my right to tell others that he lied under oath in a criminal case in which he was the complaining witness. I did not pull these allegations out of thin air, nor did I know them to be untrue. I believe my statement was (and is) true, based upon the fact that five witnesses who testified under oath directly contradicted Mr Perry's testimony in a manner which I judge to be both compelling and trustworthy."

A copy of the tape goes along with the Motion. Yeah!!!!!

We had a good turnout at the Phoenicia Seniors meeting today and Tom and Meg fended well for themselves. For the most part the group of over 30 people was cordial and attentive.

We need to coordinate telephone locations during election day somewhere near the voting polls so that we can jump over to make phone calls. If you have any suggestions please forward them to Morty. Thanks.

Will Meg and Tom's tape be on the Olive cable channel again before the election? I missed the first half.

Meg and Tom (and Curry, since you are on the Facilities committee): has anything come up about not having window screens at our buildings, while there is increasing concern about West Nile disease? I swatted a mosquito in the cafeteria at the last board meeting, and it came to mind. Something you need to discuss with the health staff in the district?

Don't expect email responses to get to Morty immediately, yesterday he had a big system crash at home. Since Windows 98 came pre- installed on his machine, it had not asked him to make a back-up start-up diskette. He is not a happy camper. Nor is Ted, who came staggering into the Woodland Valley campsite at 1 AM, having walked from Moonhaw Road over the mountains on a 2-day trip, bushwhacking through spruce for much of the second day with no potable water available. I'm glad I had those flyers for Meg and Tom taped to my car windows, I was just putting them up at the campground for him with notes written on them saying that I'd waited over two hours, was having to head home.

It was such a pleasure going down Wittenberg today and seeing all of Meg and Tom's signs. Sometimes here in Olive I feel like I'm in occupied territory.

Erik, what's the mood of the students regarding the mascot these days?
