If you could have

If you could have anything that you wanted and there were no barriers of money, time or other. What would it be . What would you wish for? Not for the world nor for your loved ones , but for you. What would you wish for yourselve.

I would sincerely wish for life to be exactly as it is, for me. We have everything we need. Just finished a day of cutting next years firewood. Pulled a few weeds in the garden. Were amazed at the growth of the potatoes , without any prompting from us. Just doing their thing. The sun is shining. My sweetie is singin in the shower. What more could I want? :) jz

To be able to study and write and have my homestead and family around. Just like it is, except for the first two ideas are compromised somewhat by economics. I plan to get there soon and am working up to it (and it's cool.)

Good idea to ask this question!

Tren - what would you wish for?

If money were no object, I would buy every single piece of "vacant" land that came up for sale in my home county and the adjacent county - - especially on the lakes. It is beautiful, beautiful country, and it is all being irrevocably changed. Obviously, not for the better, IMO.

Tren I must admit that question stopped me in my tracks! Gosh I must be in pretty good shape. There is my very old truck but I'd feel terrible replacing that sweet thing! So as Dianne says, what about you?....Kirk

If money were no object, I would buy every single piece of "vacant" land that came up for sale in my home county and the adjacent county - ooops....I think *someone* already said that....

I'm trying to really think about this one. A lot of the things that would make me happiest are actually things that you could argue would be for other people. I'd like to have lots and lots of money so I could give it to my friends who are going through money problems (it would make me happy that they were happy and had peace of mind)...I would like lots of money because it would make me happy to buy acres and acres of wilderness and keep it that way forever...things like that.

If there were no barriers of time, money, etc (and the world were an easier place), I think that I would wish to have my dogs alive again, my old horses too, my dad alive and healthy again, my grandparents as well, that my Aunt wasn't going dotty either, and that we all lived here, in the summer of my childhood memories, where we used to all get together and troop food out to the picnic tables at Gramma's house (where I live now) and everyone would come, but I'd like to magically have a little more acreage so I could keep my horses here with me and have room for a bigger garden and an orchard of heirloom apples and such.

And I'd like to not be allergic to birds anymore. And that I could fix the darn roof so it didn't keep leaking for good! (at least we're down to 7 from 32!)

I think that Kim and I have what we already want, except for the barriers of time and money! We live in spectacular mountains (the AR Ozarks), yet have ample flat land. We are very close to being self sufficient in vegetables, meat and energy. We have good neighbors, but not too close by. We live near a friendly town where crime is almost unheard of. We don't have locks on our house, and leave the keys in the car. Homesteading here is a challenge because of the poor rocky soil, but that's what keeps out commercial operations. We are isolated spiritually, but BTS is currently filling that void. I think what I would really want more than anything else is for the money barrier to disappear somehow, so that what we have does not seem so fragile in an insane world.

Thought about this one all through chores and milking. The land thing would probably be the big one for me. I have everything I want or need and am very happy with my life. I do wish I could buy more land to take it out of the "land grab" that is going on around here. Every little field is being turned into a big field by removing the beautiful fence rows or being developed as residential.

More land, land, land, land, land. And kids all over the place,bc there would no longer be a population problem. And all of you for neighbors. Hmmmm...sounds like I just stepped back in time. So maybe a time machine??? Boy could we ever find some cool tomato seeds back there! If wishes were fishes.......

A big, big piece of land, big enough that all my friends could build houses there too but we wouldn't be able to see each other's houses. An apartment over the garage so I could invite interesting people to come stay for a while but they wouldn't be underfoot. A stone circle on the edge of the woods so we could have a place to worship without the neighbors peeking out of their windows and calling the police on us. A bunch of different herb gardens, each with a different theme, like medicinal plants, culinary plants, dye plants, lemon-scented plants, etc. An education center where I could teach people about herbs and how to reconnect with nature. A little office in my home where I could have a herbalism and holistic healing practice, as well as a mail-order company to sell my own line of herbal tinctures and teas. A tiny little cabin out in the woods, just big enough for one person, for when I wanted to be by myself. A trip to Ireland and Scotland to study Celtic healing traditions. I could go on and on...

I don't think that I'll be able to convince *all* of my friends to move out to the boonies with me, but check back in 5 years and see how many of the other dreams I have accomplished!

Would the entire state of Colorado in its natural (before europeans) state be asking too much?

HOLY COW!!!!! What a bunch of land grubbers!!!!....Kirk

-- Anonymous, May 07, 2001

I'll sign on with the land grubbers!! I would want about 40 ('usable') acres as far out in the boonies as I could get. Just me, the animals, hubby and the wilderness....

-- Anonymous, May 07, 2001

Hard to think of things to wish for just for me and my hubby. Basically, we have all we need. We're almost 90 percent self-sufficient. We have 95 acres of land, mostly wooded. Had originally 100, but gave 3 acres to son and his family and 2 acres to in-laws. Excellent land, grownup pasture, but easy to convert back to pasture. Like David said, friendly town, no crime, excellent neighbors! Close enough to conveniences, but not too close!!! Guess all I'd really wish for is no more property taxes, no more mortgage payments and continued good health....and early retirement to enjoy each other and all our blessings!! Loved this post....really made me appreciate what I have after having a rather hard (emotionally) day! Thanx, Trendle.

Yah, land seems to be the number one thing, like grandma said"Buy land young man, cause they ain't maken it anymore!" Yah, I'd like to move our little oasis of a home and two acres down a looong drive way and I would like for there to be about 40 acres of woods behind that filled with rock formations and large old trees,(lots of Hemlocks and wildflowers} and of course my lovely little imagined stream would be curving gently through these magical woods.

Hey Dianne willow, good to see you! You didn't answer the question! smile, good to see you here anyhows.

In that stream there will be a wonderful swimming hole, and in the fields beside our home there would be our horses, whom I would know how to take care of and not be afraid of. And the house would be a bit bigger ,there would be an atomatic dishwasher and a new devise that would put all the silverwear into neat little rows in the the silverwear drawer like my husband(and everyone else Normal, prefers) by the time i'm done doing dishes I just throw it in there, I can't help it! I can't stand to waste time lining up silverware! And the main attraction in my expanded kitchen would be a huge old wood cook stove which in the winter would cheer with its warmth and the aroma of the bread and pies which I would bake in it. Oh! Must I stop, if I could have anything that I wanted then my husband wouldn't have to work and we could spend our lifes here on our spot. My children would never leave but build houses nearby. My grandchildren would come often for grandmas cookies. And I would be slim and pretty despite all this cooking and baking.

O.K. well this could go on forever, all these material wishes and the more I think about it the more I realize that I would never be satisfied. there would allways be something that I forgot to wish for, ( with all these wishes I forgot to request a spring house behind my summer kichen} I could never cover everything and my poor overworked Genie would forever be having to run out and fetch more bunches of wishes to grant for me. The reason that I asked this question in the first place was because I think that it is important to know what it is that you want so's that you can focus on that. But somehow while writing this out I have come to see that what I really want above all else is Peace of Mind. Because if I could have Peace of Mind all the time, then my happiness wouln't depend on all these material things, even land. So although I still hold to the notion that certain things will make me happier, is it really true. And is this something that I can stive for, oh sure I have moments when my mind is at peace but is it possible to have peace of mind most of the time.? wondering Tren

Gosh... I realize that Joy and Julie would have a good portion of northern Wisconsin bought out... tee hee... then we could have community there????

I would want things money couldn't buy.... tho I have a long list for those things I would want.. ;-}

but I wish my eldeset grandson could have contact and rapport with his real dad... and his mommy would have more time for him...

my DD#2... a healthy pregnancy... some complications are setting in already...

that my other children would learn love, compassion and kindness in this harsh world... and display it..

I wish that I didn't have such an active mind!!!

now for the money part...

land naturally with a round earth bermed home that has solar/wind/hydro working...

and sheds full of great equipment to harvest good food off of the land... a gentle team of horses or mules to help with the harvest... oh, but that tractor would be in the shed too

and a well equipped shop to avoid trips to town to be around other humans...

time to help others empower themselves in world... time to listen to a friend who needs an ear... time to teach love and compassion and peace... in a world in such rile...

time to quit wishing...

I'd love to have a small cabin situated in the middle of 50 acres in the mountains somewhere where the weather doesn't get too hot or too cold. Quiet and peaceful and where I wouldn't have to see people unless I wanted to see people. It might sound selfish but that's my fondest dream.

I'd wish for a deeper appreciation and happiness with what I already have. We are already so blessed, and walk by a hundred miracles without even noticing them! Too often in this consumption oriented world, we constantly strive for what we don't have yet. Wouldn't it be better if we could feel fulfilled with what we already have?

I'd like to hear less swearing. I have worked in construction for a looong time, and it is not possible to have even 10 minutes without having to listen to filthy language. The other things I want, I can supply for myself, but not this. I like the company of the crew (mostly), just not their choice of words. Sandy
