Ranunculus Acris and Horses

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We have neighbors that graze their two horses on our field. They told us that the buttercups flowers (Ranunculus Acris) were bad for the horses, there are several flowers growing. I have never heard of this. Does anyone know?

Yes. Buttercups (Rannunculus) are poisonous. If it is only 'several' flowers, use a weed digger and take them out before they spread. I kept after the ones in my pasture and they weren't hard to eradicate that way, but then, I only did have a few initially, and didn't let them get well established.
