What is wrong with my squash?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have 2 yellow crook neck squash in a pot about 15 inches deep. The plants are beautiful, they got large yellow flowers on them then the flowers shriveled up without getting any squash. They are watered regularly and I used a granulated fertilizer once before before I watered. Any hepl will be appreciated. Roxanne

Roxanne, the male flowers appear first. When the female flowers come, you will see the little squash on the stems. Those ones will give you more squash than you can use very soon! Use the flowers for salads - they are a real delicacy, so sweet and pretty.

When the female blossoms come you might want to fertilize them by hand if you don't have bee activity. Do this by picking a male flower, remove petals and touch it to the center of the female flowers. If you have plenty of bee and wasps this won't be needed. Yum I wish I was that close to some good ole squash. Sherry
