I have gone to a womens group in Cali that dealt with DV. First you need to find a group that your comfortable with and go the the meetings and share your story......That will help other women right away. Then you can work with the group leaders and let them know that you want to help others and they will guide you the rest of the way.

Good luck!

Hi Dee-

Iam a volunteer teeacher for Prevent Child Abuse S.C. They are my states chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America. The web address is- http://www.preventchildabuse.org/ This organization believes in preventing child abuse by educating the family. In my state, most of the parents are refered to us by social services because of abuse, neglect, and substance abuse. However, a parent can voluntarily attend classes. They also have a support group called Parents Anonymous which is not a 12-step group that a parent can also voluntarily attend. There is also a non-profit organization Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA for short) which in some areas may be called the Guardian ad Litem Program. They interceed for abused and neglected children in the courts. I tried to find an address for the national organization but didn't have any luck. Although, I did find some state addresses. I know about these organizations because I too am a survivor andI want to take a stand against child abuse. Hope I see you on the front lines!

My daughter is now being rewooed by her abuser and i am afraid for her and my grandsons safety, even though he has said he is changed and she is beginning to believe it. I'm a gay male survivor of Domestic Violence and Emotional Abuse. I'm available to offer words of encouragement to others who need to find the strength to change their situation, or to evolve from victim to Survivor. With a few notable exceptions, the legal system here in Oregon, as well as in Washington was very, very concerned about domestic violence between men. It's now been over for a little more than a year. I still fear my ex, and he does everything possible to tarnish my reputation, even with his conviction, but I'm happy and living well. I, too am a survivor of many years of DV. I am a legal advocate for domestic violence victims. I see many people get in through volunteering. You can contact a local domestic violence shelter or help line. A lot of people move from volunteer status to employment status through job vacancies or expansion. I only have one suggestion to anyone interested in this line of work....make sure that you are healed yourself, because onece you actually start working with others, if you aren't, your skeletons come back to haunt you. No one provided me with this info and I found out the hard way. I can tell you though, there is no other work as rewarding as helping others that you can relate to. Good luck and love to all of you. I too am a dv victim and survivor and very interested in working with women that I can relate to. I have stayed in a dv shelter and it was a very positive experience. I would like to find out how to return my gratitude.. It has been 2 years now and my self esteem is still off the charts! I have MY own housing which I pay for and MY own money and most of all MY safety for my children and me. But I still feel as if something is missing and I realized now is the time for me to get involved and show other women and children theres is a light at the end of the tunnel. So if you have any suggestions for me to get started on the path of enlighting others I would greatly appreciate all help!

I am also looking to be a volunteer for women in abusive relationships. Where I live there is an organization that helps people with this. If you are interested in this, you may want to get ahold of your local mental health department, and tell them you would like to find support groups on Anger Management. Good luck. These support groups have helped me out greatly.
