Adolph Sutro had several homes around the Bay Area. Besides his home at Sutro Heights Park (now demolished) in San Francisco, I believe he also had a home on Fillmore Street (@ Grove?) and one somewhere on top of today's Sutro Tower hill. I've also read that he had a Napa Valley country estate. Does anyone know the EXACT locations of the Fillmore, Sutro Tower or Napa Valley homes, or any other Sutro homes in the Bay Area? Are any of these homes still standing?

Bob, I can only answer one location today: Sutro's estate was 10 miles North of Calistoga on main stage road to Middletown at an elevation of 1,800 feet.

A certain Mr. Shook lived on the place. Another Mr. Livermore had a country home close, as did a Mr. Van Ness to the South of it. Near the stage road, there were two sets of buildings, one shown close to a pond, a barn, a Sutro cottage, stables, plus another "improvement with mountain water". Shall we go scout the area? ;-)

Leah Sutro's residence was on the Northwest corner of Hayes & Fillmore Sts; but Adolph seemed to have owned real estate not only in S. F. and Napa, but also in San Mateo, Alameda, house & grounds in Inglewood, in the City of New York, et cetera.

For a listing of Adolph G. Sutro's properties with values, check this scan: http://genealogy.stst.net/Sutro/sutro5b.jpg

Under Coastal Shore Lands, it also mentions a Telegraph Station!

Anyone has an idea if there are still buildings standing that belonged to him (except the house he built for his daughter Emma on 2355 Washington)?
