found a baby wood duck, now what?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Too funny. Today at work we were digging out some metal rebar for a customer, when there this little duck popped up. We all looked around for mama and nest to no avail, so now the little duck is in my kitchen in a plastic bucket with a little bowl of water and some wheat bread and milk.

Do little wood ducks require care different from domestic baby ducks??

Anyone have any experience here?

Would be grateful. (and so would the duck)

They can climb. Have a lid on whatever you keep them in. I've not raised any(yet). I would guess the same feed(nonmedicated) for any duck would be ok.

Hey Marty, I answered over at the CS forum but, yes....unmedicated chick starter is what I have used to raise mallards and they lived to fly free as adults. They are funny, they (my husband tell me it really isn't THEM) fly over the yard really low quacking like crazy quite freqently. (I am sure it is THEM and also the Canadian honker that I raised brought his mate to meet me and nests nearby every year)
