Keep Out

The Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have received some complaints about the recent fundraiser hosted by Hillary Rodham Clinton in her new Washington, D.C. home. The $1,000 per person cocktail party was held to help fellow Senate freshman Maria Cantwell relieve several million dollars of campaign debt. "It was a popular event, a lot of people donated money with the expectation that Mrs. Clinton's home would be open for at least some touring," says a DSCC aide. "No one cared about Cantwell. They just wanted to see the house."

Boy were they disappointed. Many attendees have complained that Secret Service agents blocked the stairwells of the house, not allowing visitors upstairs or into some areas of the main floor. "I guess we should have been clear that this wasn't an open house," says the DSCC staffer. At least two senators who attended the event grumbled about not getting a tour.
