Mosquitoes on lambs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi All, We have 6 new baby lambs, about 3 weeks, and I can't stand the mosquitoes on them. Is there anything we can put on them without endangering the ewes? I think they still lick them frequently. We already feed Diatomacious Earth to the moms, could we dust the lambs with this and stop the skeeters? We have 'bug dope' for kids, but it is not ment to be eaten. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jill

There is another answer to the problem. Encourage bats into your area in that bats eat over half their body weight in misquitos per night; do this by building bat houses. I don't have specs for bat houses but I have seen them in the search engines, maybe someone in the forum's readership has this info. How about it batlovers....

Usually the ewes just lick the rear ends. I have heard of Vicks vaporub being used around the face ( not in the eyes) to ward off flies.
