what does personifacation have to do with this poem

I'll bet you are talking about "The Raven". In case it is not I'll keep it short. Read Poe's essay "The philosophy of Composition" at the end of which he says the Raven finally is revealed as "emblematic" of "Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance" when the man screams for the the curse to remove its "beak" from his heart, and the last stanza. The dumb repetition of "Nevermore" that the man seeks meaning for is thus revealed and the bird becomes more than just a bird but the personification of the interior feeling of the man's lost Beauty(which is what Lenore stands for over and above his love departed.
