need to find a crank shaft for an old tractor

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Our wonderful OLD Ferguson tractor lost it's crank shaft last Saturday and We are looking for a replacement. I have checked out the yesterdaystractors.com site but no crank shaft. Anybody out there knkow where we can find one? THis tractor my Husband's Dad bought new in the 40's. It's the type you have to crank to start. (Oh it did have an electric starter once apon a time but not now). It looks very simaliar to a Ford tractor. This was made before Massy took over the Ferguson's. The engine size we think is a TE20. Thanks for your help!!!

If You cant find the crank there is a process called flame spray (welding) in whitch they build up the old crank and then turn it down to standard specs. Check with any of the larger machine shops, industrial type, they should be able to do it. God Bless and have a Great week.

Okay Michelle Maybe it is the same as the thousands of 'Fergies' sold around the world, they originated in UK and I expect it would be easy to find a crank there PROVIDED you have the UK engine. The engines were, I believe, either Continental (USA?) or Standard (UK) which was reputed to be the same as fitted to the Standard Vanguard car, also sold in thousands but probably not in USA, maybe Canada.

Continental engines have Z-120 cast on the engine block, left hand side, or so I have read, I have never seen a Continental version. The Standard engine would have been fitted with Lucas electrical parts, eg distributor, generator, starter etc but those might have been changed in the life of the machine. Lucas distributor and coil of the era had screw in fixtures for the high tendsion leads

If you want a nice little bit of history to impress your friends, a party of NZ explorers drove Fergies to the South Pole and were the first to make such a journey by mechanised means. It was about 1500 miles one way!

Call the 800 info number and find Wengers in Pensylvinia or call Stevenson in Lousiana, or find these numbers in an old tractor/hobby magazine.

Try www.tractortown.com

I found parts for my Bohlens that the dealers told me I'd never be able to get.
