NIB recognition of Massage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : AMTNSW : One Thread

I understand that NIB health is about to recognise ARM and ANTA for rebate purposes for remedial massage - are they going to recognise AMT and when is this likely to take effect.

Hi John,

Funny this should come up, as my first client/patient this morning happened to be a member of NIB. He went directly to the insurer to claim on the receipt but was told they did not recognise AMT (NSW).

Can someone tell me what their criteria is for selection of associations is?????

Evening John

I have notified our Vice-President of Remunerations to have a look at your message. Her name is Melanie and she has taken on the job of looking after our member's interests with the Health Funds.

After a phone call to NIB, I have been assured that they will recognise AMT and are currently seeking information from us to this end. The email I received today from NIB stated (in part): ..."We presently recognise these modalities, Naturopathy, Homeopathy, Iridology, Nutrition, Herbalism and accupuncture and Remedial Massage. The criteria Nib require for Remedial Masseurs is a minimum of 500hrs this being made up of: Face to Face content must be 200 hrs or more Correspondence training must include a component of 1. Anatomy & Physiology 2. Health Services. 3. Also must have Supervised Clincial Training 4. Training in Remedial Massage Technique 5. Examination must be under supervision and be assessed by a trained provider. Also the AQF level Certificated 4 will be accepted". I will be sending them requested info and list of eligible members ASAP and they hope to have system in place 'post haste'. Hope this answers all queries

Thanks Melanie - proof again that being a member of an efficient organisation (with efficient Executives!) works

Hi all,

While were on the subject of Health Funds, I was recently talking to a fellow Massage Therapist about 'Medibank Private'. He recently rang them up to ask about how to get a provider no. and although helpful, their criteria seems to discriminate against older therapists in the profession that didnt do 540 hours training all at the same time. After a lengthy conversation with them he is now under the understanding that continued education with Medibank private is not recognised, and when asked how many Massage therapist have they got listed the reply was "not many". If anyone has anymore information on this or would like to further investigate, I'd be interested to know the outcome.

Hello Anne

The Medibank Private Remedial Massage Provider Information notes state that "if you graduated prior to 1995 with fewer than the required hours of study, prior learning and experience may be assessed in conjunction witn study hours for equivalence".

This means that anyone who graduated before 1995 but has continued to study with good quality REMEDIAL massage workshops (Rob Granter, Rich Pheigh etc) should have a chance.
