John, I haven't seen you post here lately. How are you doing? (Or have I just missed reading something from you lately?)

Also, how many of you guys are chatting instead of posting here? It does seem like it has gotten rather quiet, but then again, we are all busy too...

IS any one chatting/finding others in chat when you go in? I haven't tried recently . . . .

I have been busy, and may soon lose my "Queen Blabbermouth" crown . . . .

I have gone to the chat a bunch of times and there is never any body there! Oh well, got things to do anyhow! Tren

I went to the chat room last night and nobody was there. But I can always talk to myself! I went out and planted hostas and irises instead.

With my webtv, I can't even figure out how to get to the chat site! Probably a lack of intelligence on my part:)!!

Tnx for thinking of me Sheepish---just been busy. Mother-in-laws coming to visit for THREE MONTHS from Poland so getting a guest room ready etc. She doesn't speak English so that's gonna make it kinda strange. I'm gonna feel like a stranger in my own home. Oh well--- three months I can handle. See ya'll later.

Things are still veeeerrrrry busy around here. I FINALLY got the raspberrries planted in their new bed last night. Now I want to move on to building and conditioning the blueberry bed in anticipation of planting them next year. I also want to get the asparagus bed built, too, for next years planting.

I haven't been to chat since Earthmama and I were there. I probably won't have time to make it to chat any time soon. I usually work til sundown outside and then come in to shower and head for bed.

Marcia: I'm not sure why you're having trouble getting in to the chat area. I'm not all that familiar with how webtv works... can webtv handle java applets? If not then that may be why you can't get in...

At some point in the future when I have a little more time - can't say when that will be right now - I'll get into the Bravenet system and see if I can find anything on whether WebTV is compatible with the Bravenet chat system.

BTW, here is a direct link to our chat room in case you're having trouble with the Yggdrasill web site:

Jim, Please excuse the lack of "computer know-how" on my part! I have no problem getting to where it says Jim's Chat Room. Then it tells me to enter when the chat window appears...but just below that paragraph it says I do not have a Java compatible browser. So I click on to where it says to download Netscape now. Next screen says I have a non-netscape Client: Webtv, etc. Also says there's no need to upgrade. But it also asks if I want to make Netscape communicator my default browser....I don't know...do I?? Anyways, what's my next step after I've gotten this far??? Seems to me that I have both the titles of "computer Dummy" and "Webtv Dummy" covered!

Marcia,

I have virtually no experience with Webtv so can't say for sure what your problem is but I can make an educated guess.

Your Webtv system isn't made to use javascript and I'm assuming that you don't have a hard drive with Webtv. I think the browser and email programs you use on Webtv are built right into the system - they're not software programs that you can download and install like you can with a PC. So, it looks to me like you are not going to be able to use the chat system we have set up.

But, if I have some time this weekend I'll look around on the Web to see if there is anything out there for chat that is compatible with Webtv.

If you have time, you could do a search on google.com. Put the words "Web TV" and "chat room" into the search engine and see what you come up with.

Jim, Thanks so much for looking into this for me. I hate to take up your valuable time! I do know that Webtv has no hard drive and all info comes from the main system at Webtv. I'm able to chat through MSN, but not sure about anything else. Also, after looking around and doing some research on a Webtv help page (which I found completely by accident!!) I was able to get info about my particular system. And...of course...it's not compatible with Java. So, anyways, thanks again for trying to get me included in the chatroom!!

Talk City is compatible with WebTV www.talkcity.com

Yes, I've been to Talk City, but no one is ever in the "Homestead" chat room. Guess Talk City isn't very talkative!!

I think we'll have to set up some particular times to chat, if we ever want to get together . . . . . .

-- Anonymous, May 20, 2001

Yep, I agree, Joy. We need to set up specific times so people can expect some regularity with regard to chatting.

I *think* I was succesful in setting up another chat forum with talkcity so those of you with WebTV can now participate (I think).

I have two URL's for you guys to try:

http://j.talkcity.com/ChatLauncher?room=Beyond% 20the%20Sidewalks&x=15&y=12

http://j.talkcity.com/GroupHome?group_id=221398

The first one is a temporary chat room (I think) and the second one is a Beyond the Sidewalks Club with several features - one of them being a dedicated chat room.

I'd appreciate it if some of you would try the URL's to see if this stuff is working or not. The Talkcity chat was not as easy to set up as Bravenet so I'm not sure if everything is working properly...

Jim, the first one seemed to work -- was just a regular Talk City chat room. The second one took me to a "club" page (I know nothing about their clubs), and I didn't see any links to go to a specific chat room. Don't know what was SUPPOSED to be there, though.

Jim, I got to both sites, also and found the same as Joy. On the Club page I browsed the clubs, just looking for something familiar....didn't find anything. Boy, the catagory titled "others" was interesting...to say the least!!! Where do all these people find the free time to form these "strange" clubs:)!!

John, Ahhh. I see you are around!

You guys must be all snowed in or something....all the theology/philosophy on the other threads. ;-)

It's finally spring here so I'm off to hang laundry and get my hands in the dirt. But I'll be thinking of online thoughts...
