I found you guys! Actually, Doreen found me.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Hello everyone, I knew there was a new forum that many of you had disappeared to, but didn't know where. This looks like a great place, kind of like the "old" CS forum. Hope it stays that way. I was rather, well, for lack of a better word, flabbergasted, at what happened at CS. I had been a lurker there for perhaps a year or more before I ever posted there, and thought I had found a like-minded group of people (had been reading the CS mag for 16-17 years and was delighted to discover their forum). Not that all of us think exactly alike, but that we all love the country and the "homesteading" mentality, and (I thought) could benefit from each others experiences and insights. Wrong.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly what happened over there, but it really escalated when the censorship began. Like many of you, I confess I thought Joel had over reacted when Ken announced he would be categorizing the uncatagorized posts, and adding more descriptive titles when necessary. What's wrong with that? Rather a nice feature, I thought. How it jumped from there to censorship, and then totally deleting objectionable, inflammatory, or even silly posts, was amazing. Of course, as with most censorship, only statements which disagree with certain people's opinions are deleted. Apparently inflammatory and objectionable is ok as long as it falls in line with certain people's opinions. Never thought I'd see the day that happened on CS, which I thought was a champion of free thinking. Lesson learned, I guess. Anyway, THANK YOU DOREEN for setting up this new forum.

Nice to see you here, Lenenette! Yes, Joel was right. Wish we could find some way to get ahold of him and invite him here.

I peek at whats being posted over there from time to time and the ones who regularly started the philosophy arguments are still allowed to post their nonsense but the rest of us have our threads pulled. I guess we know where the new editors of cside stand politically. Soon Cside will be a reader written ripoff of TMEN. At least I still have Backwoodshome, at least, until one of you start a magazine...

Hi Lenette welcome.I'm hiding right now so pretend you don't see me.

Hey there, Lenette! glad you found all of "us"! I can't find Joel's number. I think I put it in code and forgot my code. lol! Anyway, I don't think he's on line anymore either. If I find the number I will let him know.

Hey Lenette, GREAT to see you here!

I have not been posting much (computer problems & busy....) but check in whenever I can. Hope to participate more come Fall, I really enjoy it! And, I know what you mean about Joel....I also wish he could be located.

William hit the nail on the head in regards to the CS forum! I did not renew my subscription due to the "policy" change. Won't support (willingly) any organization who chooses to squash &/or prohibit the voluntary participation of individuals to debate or voice opinions...another words, censorship. Yes, they have the right to do so and I have the right to disagree and remove myself. Wish people could understand the bigger picture...even were I a lefty I would shout to high heaven were "my" side to try to shut down the opposing viewpoint. Personally, I like the left to voice their positions and try to substantiate those positions>>> makes it easier for those of us on the other side! Those positions being so defunct of substance..and the results of liberalism being seen so clearly in our time. Ah well, they will just "say" it is only a homesteading forum, let's stick to homesteading. But the proof is in the pudding. (Check out some of the posts, as William noted) Not to mention the VERY obvious fact that homesteading is a LIFESTYLE, not a singular "item", such as a Weavers forum or a goat board, etc...

Anyway, glad you are here and Hi everyone!

ps...greg, don't stay in lurkers mode too long! I like what you have to say and enjoy reading your posts!!

pss...William, makes me appreciate even more my BWH!! I am now down to that one subscription!

Holy Cow! I was offline for about a month so I missed everything. I just went back to CS and reviewed the archives, what didn't get deleted. Sure was a lot of nastiness going on, and it was Doreen's conservative viewpoint that got deleted? The heathens and pagans can say whatever nasty thing they want but if you mention the Name of Jesus they cry real loud.

Thank you for this forum, Doreen. Oh, I better go read your rules so I don't step in it here, too.

Lenette -

Good to see you!! I'm glad you are here!! And, I agree about CS... Living in 'interesting times' and all that -

And, thanks Doreen, for a safe place to say what is thought and felt with honesty!!

Good to see you here Lenette! This is a great place. Good to see the rest of you from CS here too. I was really concerned when the new editor took over CS that it would change. It has for sure. I haven't cancelled my subscription yet but am seriously thinking about it and doubt I will be renewing it. Guess I'm going to have to subscribe to BWH. I catch it on the newsstand now and then. I wish we could locate Joel too. I always did like Joel and agreed with most of what he said. He's very outspoken but then I am too, probably more so in person than on this electronic wonder! I know I've made a lot of people mad, even my own sisters when I found out how liberal they are. All I can do is pray for them. Good to see you all and good to see this forum grow! Thanks Doreen.
