Tobe, can you briefly recap the Salamanca article for us? It didn't make it into the online Freeman.

The article says, "With the support of the Seneca Nation of Indians, Salamanca City school students will keep their name and logo despite a directive from the state to end the use of Native American mascots and nicknames." etc etc..the school super is going to send a note to Mills telling him they intend to keep the name and that it's culturally appropriate to do so.

"Salamanca, with about 6000 residents, is the only US city existing mostly on an Indian reservation." from Kingston Freeman (AP) on Friday May 25th...I'll fax it to anyone who wants it. Tobe

Lucia called and she is organizing an award to be made at graduation, as well as a donation of classroom-library materials for each school. At present the idea is to have the award made jointly by COLOR STAND and SOS...

We hope to have an award of $500. Which means we have to raise our share (1/3 or $167.00). What do you think...is anyone there? Tobe

Hmmm, what's our share if we are members of both STAND AND SOS? Or those who are STAND and COLOR? Will a $20 bill thrown into the kitty by all of us garner what we need?
