Cattle Feed for Goats

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I remember there was a post once here that said there is an synthetic protein in Cow feed that would harm goats. I looked at the goat archives and couldn't find it. I have been keeping a calf with my goats and have been feeding the calf my goat feed because I can't remember what to say away from and I am afraid that the goats could get into the calf feed by accident.

Are you refering to urea? It is a nonvegetable protein substitute which if fed in large amounts can result in toxic amounts of ammonia being produced. (We avoid using it in any of our feed mixes.) Hope this helps.
