My favorite is www.bookfinder.com. It accesses a number of other search engines, maybe all of them. You can find new, used, and out of print books around the world. It's really about the only one I use. Others have mentioned newagebooks.com or something like that. I haven't checked it out yet, but probably will at some point. I don't think I've ever seen that engine come up on a bookfinder search, so that may be a good resource I haven't yet explored.

Half.com

But I've sold more books on Half.com than I've bought...

Yarrow, my favorite place to find used books, is at Librairy book sales. They are usually pretty crowded here, They will have books catergorized so's I can zoom in on what I am interested in. Usually they are a quarter for hard back books. I have found some real treasures there! Once I found a Harold Bell Wright book, these are long out of print, and favorites of mine, he wrote about and from the Ozarks,( I used to live there,} I just pick up what looks interesting . I live with the notion, that what I need will find me when it comes to books and have discoved many facinating books this way. Tren

Online is too expensive. Libraries, yard sales and you can buy new books at Dollar Tree for $1 ea. Software too . I got a 2000 edition cdrom encyclopedia, a medical reference, a gardening handbook and a small engine repair manual on cd for one dollar each.

I buy on Half.com, eBay,Alibris, and Bookfinder. I don't pay more than I am willing to at any of them. If I want it badly, maybe I will go the money, maybe I won't. Maybe if I see it on eBay and the copies going on Bookfinder are twice as high I'll bid.

Our local library sales are abysmal. The used sets of Britannica are always gone before I get there, and what is left over are usually bodice ripper romances (*blorg*) and freebie cookbooks from Beanie Weenie, or similar things. I do haunt antique sales. Got a Rudyard Kipling book for $12.50 that would sell for a minimum of $30 elsewhere. The spine was a little broken and the papers had a bit of foxing, but I fixed the one and don't mind the other.

Ditto on Half.com, ebay and bookfinder, plus addall.com gives a price comparison that I have used from time to time. Happy hunting.

Namaste,

There is a really well-run, comprehensive, well-stocked used book store in Snohomish WA called "Upper Case Books." I have bought most of my used books there (I know it's not convenient for all of you! But if anyone out here wants a resource...) They have thousands of titles, all organized by category, plus rare books, etc. They also have lattes, for those local bibliophiles that can't read without caffeine...
