Kiko...

Another romour. He's free...he will snub us on monday anyway.

NEWCASTLE UNITED are expected to renew their interest in Atletico Madrid striker Kiko Narvaez, as the Spanish international looks set to quit the Segunda Liga outfit after Sunday's final game of the season against Getafe. Understandably, neither the club nor the player has issued a statement yet, but an official announcement is expected to be made on Monday morning, with the forward having his contract terminated.

Kiko joined Atletico Madrid from his hometown team of Cadiz back in 1993. Now, after eight years service, the 29-year-old feels the time is right to move on.

However, he will now leave the Madrid club on a free transfer, which has already alerted several clubs including Bobby Robson’s Newcastle United. Sevilla, Real Betis and Mallorca have all shown an interest in him and he almost joined Milan last year, after having medical tests in Italy.

The Magpies made an official offer for him in April, but Kiko declined, stating that he wanted to concentrate on Atletico and he would make a decision regarding his future at the end of this season.

Bobby Robson has for some time been an admirer of Kiko’s British-style talents and tried to sign him when he was manager of Barcelona. It now appears that Newcastle are favourites for his signature should he decide to leave Spain, although a move within La Liga is thought to be his preferred option.

Kiko has been absent in recent weeks, and the Spanish press have not bought the claims of coach Carlos Garcia Cantarero that he is out injured with an ankle problem.

Amazingly, after Atletico were relegated last season, Kiko announced that rather than leave the club, he would play for free. He would then be financially rewarded should they gain promotion. However, his appearances in the first team this season have been scarce and he has now decided to quit Los Rojiblancos.

Kiko has played for Spain on 29 occasions, scoring four goals, and he will be an attractive free agent after being allowed to have his contract terminated by Jesus Gil.

Only things I read of interest today were

Robson interested in Tattio, Keegan will resist, even at £6m

Elliot will refuse the Bolton offer and become a free agent

Peter Reid has sounded out other clubs about selling Phillips but has had no interest, although Roeder may come back in, apparently Roeder originally took him to Watford, and with the Lampard windfall and potential loss of Kanoute feels he needs a big (?!) signing to get the fans on his side
