new to board, city bred country homesteader, sorta

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

hi, i just found this forum through my friend sharon, wildflower, and it looks pretty interesting. you folks seem to have many of my interests. the herbs for soaps that sharon sent was my question. i moved to the country from the city 3 years ago. we bought a 30 acre hill side hard scrable farm. for a living i am a school nurse and on the side i . . . 1. make and sell baskets, 2. raise poultry, 3. raise goats, 4. have a small garden. presently my dh and i have 15 goats, 3 are milking right now, numerous chickens, 4 turkeys, 10+ ducks, 2 geese, 1 rabbit (if you have more than one, you get lots!), 1 dog and 1 cat. we use our milk to make cheese, soap, butter, desserts, and any thing else i can think of. we eat the eggs from the chickens and ducks, but i haven't been able to eat them. we raised a pig and had someone else slaughter it and package it. i don't have any trouble with that. our first year we had a 1/2 acre garden which i canned and frozed my heart out, we still are eating from that garden, hence the small garden now. well thats enough for now. love, april weaver

Hi Jennifer.Looks like the link worked for you, this time.

Eegads! Someone who knows me in real life. Now I have to clean up my language, watch what I say, not tell any dirty jokes, and stop flirting with the guys.

Bummer. No fun anymore. I may as well leave.Find another forum to stir up :0)

Joy & Denise... Jennifer is her real name. She was trying to post using a pseudonym and didn't know that, when filling in the spaces for name and email addy, that those would showed up on forum.

And Jennifer is far too modest. You should see her baskets! They are very unique and special. She has received high praise for them. Both her and her hubbie weave them, using materials they collect.

I met Jennifer thru the art coop abt 2 yrs ago.Three of us had moved to the area recently, were creative and liked homesteading things,so we kinda migrated towards each other.

She is very good at marketing her baskets, too, is a ball of energy (she'll deny it) and a very friendly person.(Polly, she likes auctions too). Mamma hen to those little kiddies at school. We do a booth together at the Arts & Crafts Festival.Could not do that w/o her.

So you all better be nice to her! Or this purple people eater, who stands by her friends, will bite your butt, but good :o)

Oh Jennifer..just don't get in the discussions on politics or religion. "Cause all bets are off, and you're on you own. I may even offend you, then :oD

Hi jennifer, welcome to the forum.

Don't feel bad or embarassed about trying to use a pseudonym. After hearing some of the horror stories from some of the members on our forum, I can understand your reluctance with giving your real name and email address.

I did take the liberty of X'ing out your email address for your privacy. If you decide to use your real email addy in the future that's not a problem with me - I just wanted to help protect your privacy to some degree.

I hope you'll feel comfortable enough in posting again to our forum - most of us are harmless (emphasis on most of us) . ;-)

Don't believe him Jennifer. He IS NOT harmless. He's really, really terrible. He's a total sex fiend. Keep your distance! You'll see :oD

Oh....maybe he was referring to me! Well,he's right! I am not harmless. I'm really, really terrible.I'm a total sex fiend. You know ;-0

Hi Jen, and welcome! Always great to meet new folks with the old interests!

Welcome Jennifer!

Oh, I wish I could weave baskets. My D.H. bought me a book a few years ago, and I even went out and collected cattails, willow, and tall prarie grass but I could't make the basket stay togather. I've always been awed by beautiful weaving styles, and variety with differences in grass types. I guess I thought it would be easy! ;-)

Enjoy yourself in this good company.
