What are the attributes of a compensation plan?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Bylaws for IP Corporations : One Thread

Project owners will put out offers for modules that programmers and testers would develop both collaboratively and competitively. The plan must establish fair guidelines for the process, rules that can be used in the event of a dispute to guide arbitration. What attributes do you think important?

Project owners break the work down into modules and develop compensation plans. Other project owners might compete for commitments from programmers and testers, just as programmers and testers may compete amongst themselves. Winner-take-all creates the maximum competitive pressure, encourages weaker contributors to take on more manageable pieces and minimizes negotiation costs.

Winner-take-all discourages participation because the barrier to entry become too high. Individual contributions must be negotiable at any grain size
