Goat for barter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hello everyone- Iam located in Western North Carolina and purchased a registered Alpine who kidded in March. She is 21/2 years old and had triplets, no health problems and is a really nice goat--well I have realized that I do not want to milk 2x a day so I would like someone who really wants to have a great first goat to learn on to get her.

If anyone would be interested in bartering I would be open to offers- I can e-mail pictures of her and any other info you would want.

I also have one of her doe kids available also-- Anyhow just thought I would throw this out and see if there is any interest-

Have a great night!!

Brigid

So Brigid, if milking twice a day isn't your thing, why don't you just milk once a day? Leave the kid on her for a while, if it's not too late, so her production stays up. Otherwise, just milk once a day, and when her production gets too small, quit milking. Next year, leave the kid with her during the day and separate them at night from day one. Milk only in the morning before reuniting them. When you sell the kid, stay with once a day milkings. Of course, if she is too full at first, you can ease her up a little bit in the evening for a couple of days, but her production should drop to where she can easily handle once a day milking. This has worked really well for me.

Yes Yes... We need a goat. I went to get a Nubian yesterday- 6 hour drive to Wilimington area, NC but the lady raised her prices from her over the phone price to her in person price (I was offended!)... my wife is really wanting a milk goat and we have been looking for one for 2- 3 months now. What part of western NC? I sometimes get out to Winston- Salem for business and could possibly pick up- what would you like to trade/ sell her for? My number is 252 462 2369. I check my email weekly as I have to check at my fathers house. Thanks!
