I am due to do an upgrade of our two sql 7 servers to 2000. I have read the white papers etc.. and seen the options for the upgrades, either upgrade the DB's therefore overwriting the existing one and using a named instance. Just wondered if there were any pitfalls I should be aware of really to prepare myself. Also I have a number of ODBC links going to the SQL 7 databases (as they are using Access front ends) Do I need to upgrade the ODBC version from 3.70.06.23 etc..to the 2000 drivers for then to be still able to connect??

I found that the upgrade in place (after a backup of course) went without incident.

About the ODBC driver, you should be OK with or without upgrading it. See the KnowledgeBase article, INF: Frequently Asked Questions - SQL Server 2000 - Programming (at http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q260/8/17.ASP) for more details.

Hi,

I migrate by importing bases in a fresh installation of 2000 on another server.

I had troubles with triggers that the Web Assistant generated in a database when it was running under 6.5 or 7.0. So I would advise you to remove them before migration.
