Ken, Just be careful. Alot of those toy breeds have birthing problems, usually with the puppies being too large for the mother. If she is overdue (and I'm sorry but I do not remember how long it takes) and she seems to be straining, take her to the vet to have a C- section. I hope this is not the case. Good luck

The gestation is 56 to 63 days. Depends on how many times she was bred too. Might have been the first time, might have been the last time. My girls usually have them on day 60 but have been know to go over a couple. My girls will have "labor" (no pushing) for about 4 to 8 hours before. Contractions and digging up blankets, wanting to get in closets, just acting like it is close. Watch her close, and after the first real push, the first pup should come within a couple hours, sometimes much sooner.

Thanks Cindy, We will watch her. Took her to the vet he said "good news/bad news" Good news shes in fine shape. Bad news she may be going to have 1 big pup or 3/4 small pups. He's supposed to have a 95% track record on predicting for minitures.

Hey your right hmmmm Nope the wife couldn't be in the family way she was fixed after our daughter was born.

I'll let you know how it goes.

What do you mean "one big pup or 3/4 small pups? You mean he didn't x ray her? I'd want to know what she is carrying. If it's one big pup then you know you could be in for trouble. You've already had good advice re watching her like a hawk and the "nesting" behavior before birth so I know you'll heed that. By the way, there is no "toy" or "miniature" Chihuahuas. They are "Chihuahuas", period.

Well, any pups yet?

Hi Cindy,

No pups yet. She has claimed the living room couch and built her a fort out of a quilt.
