Presto replacement gaskets

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Some time ago someone posted a site for ordering the gray replacement gaskets as the newer black ones do not work as well. If it is in the archives, I've missed it. Could someone please re-post that site. I will write it down this time, in a safe place.

Here is the address for the presto company website. I ordered a gasket here last year for one of my cookers and it was the gray one that you are looking for. Their site has an 800 number if you have any questions.

Does this mean you can still get good gaskets?

We've had trouble even finding gaskets lately. We finally found a Gibson's Discount Center (a department store chain that's here in the south) that carries them. We have to drive 50 miles one way to get to that store! The problem is that the gaskets do good to last through 5 cannings. This gets expensive!

The gaskets we got years ago lasted a long while. You could can many 100s of jars with one gasket.

I would like to hear feedback from other people who pressure can. What is the best gasket to get? What are your experiences with gaskets?

Just went thru the misery - yet again - of finding replacement gaskets for several pressure cooker/canners. One was a Presto and the other two were Mirros. One was about 12 years old and the oldest was about 24 years ols. None of them are "antiques" but finding the parts was a major headache and when found, were **very** expensive special orders. I am really irked that equipment meant to last a long, long time is so hard to find replacement parts for. Boo! to the manufacturers!

I'm really tired of this great find-the-gasket dance every couple of years. Had heard of a pressure cooker/canner that doesn't use gaskets at all and put a lot of time into researching this wonder. The brand name of the one we bought is All American and we got it from Lehman's. It cost about $245 but holds much more than the old ones we had. And it never, never, never, never, never, NEVER needs new gaskets! Metal lid is shaped so it fits right into the bottom and it all screws tightly together. When heated, the lid mates perfectly with the bottom and holds pressure, thanks to the big screw down thingies all around the lid. I love it.
