Part of Redondo Beach Closed Due to Sewage Spill (KFWB) 7.02.01, 2:03p --

Parts of Redondo Beach will be off-limits for the next couple days. The Los Angeles County Health Department closed a mile-long section of beach because raw sewage entered King Harbor on Sunday, said spokeswoman Maria Iacobo. A clogged sewer line caused the 1,000 gallon spill. Beaches between King Harbor and Topaz Street will be closed for at least 48 hours and will continue to be closed until bacteria levels return to normal.

The department says beach users are advised to avoid all contact with ocean water in the closure area and where closure signs are posted.

Water contact may cause someone to become ill.

Recorded beach information is available at (800) 525-5662 or at the health department's web site.
