World court, doesn"t that make you kinda wonder where we are headed!!!!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I saw in the U S A newspaper, that they took Milosevic from his country {Yugoslav] to Hague Netherlands, to be tried in the WORLD COURT, Now I know this man is a mass murderer, but shouldn"t he be tried in his own country by his own people. Which brings me to this, How long before we will all be brought before a world court for crimes and have a jury from countrys, for the most part hate our guts.Just a thought! I believe the UN is getting together in the next few weeks to make a plan to disarm us of our guns. Our country is slipping away slowly, a little piece at a time.Welcome to the New World Order, Irene

Hi Irene,

Did you object when Israeli agents tracked down Nazis war criminals and brought them back to stand trial in a country that did not exist when the crimes were committed? Never mind the moral imperative. What was the legal basis for extradition to a non-existent country?

So now we have the War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague. The defendants are accused of commiting extraordinary crimes of murder, rape and genocide. I don't think you'll find yourself before the bench for running a red light in Belgium as an American tourist. The Tribunal has a limited mandate to pursue individuals accused of atrocities within a very narrow geographic area and time frame.

Now, take the case of the American sergant in Okinawa accused of raping a Japanese national. Just whose jail is he going to sit in? The matter will be resolved between Japan and the U.S. Both are countries with well established legal structures. The Hague, on the other hand, exists to give justice in those limited cases where civil law was suspended, ignored or severely abused.

When there are legal disputes between sovereign nations, just where DO you go for a hearing? The whole aspect of international law is still evolving as nations become more sophisticated and involved in their dealings with each other. International law is simply an outgrowth of international commerce and politics.

And no, the UN is NOT going to take our guns away. That's more of the same dribble I've heard for years about the "blue helmets" hiding in our national forests, etc. This country REQUIRES a bogey man to justify it's immense defence expenditures. But, it does tend to get a bit dry after awhile.

Thank you Craig for answering this post so eloqently as you usually do. I was ignoring it hoping that it would go away. I am thinking it was posted here by accident and she ment to post it at the Freedom forum.

Craig: Very nice response. The initial post is the sort of rightwing nonsense that they use to draw people into their crazy world. Scary and really sad. There is so much good in the world, why waste your time chasing fictional demons?

Oh boy , I never thought of myself as a rightwing fanatic, I"m just a old lady in my 70"s, who just read the artical in the paper, and just thought it strange how much the U N has invaded our lives, I can"t say I am real educated like most of you young ones, I had to quit school during the depression to pick crops with my parents to survive. Sorry I offended you all , But I still think a lot of our freedoms are slipping away, Like a frog in a kettle, the water getting hotter and he doesn"t relize he is cooking, as its so gradual. Please forgive me my stupidity. Irene

WWII was one of the first instances of a world-court type judiciary, however, not of this caliber. Yes. He should be tried. However, there is much more at stake this time.

For one thing, the world-court idea has many more implications than a War Crimes Tribunal. They will have power over the respective countries to try other crimes. They will be trying WTO cases, criminal cases, and cases which are appealed from country's 'supreme courts'. There are MAJOR differences between this case and the Nazis. First of all, in the scope of their authority, second in the types of crimes they are permitted to hear in addition to War Crimes. Of course, they would love the comparison!! Get everybody on board, and then let them suffer for their own stupidity....

If you want to know what is really happening with the World Court, just read a few back issues of the "Foreign Affairs" magazine. It is highly enlightening how they make every picture as rosy as possible, lolling everyone into a false sense of security in National Sovereignty, false patriotism, etc etc.

OK - before I get nailed, let me say that I don't believe that the Council on Foreign Relations is in kahoots with some global conspiracy. I DO say that they are a) REAL, b) spreading false and misleading information (gee... ad the rest of the press to that!) and c) not thinking of anything more than their own short-term, and IHO short-sighted agenda.

Craig, Interesting you should mention the U.N. and taking away our guns. Are you familiar with the Free Congress? There is an interesting commentary there at http://www.freecongress.org. Once you are at the site use the search and type in U.N. Meeting in July - when the infor. comes up click on #l. - commentary by Paul M. Weyrich, May 14, 200l

There is more information that I have seen lately concerning the U.N. meetings this July but at the moment I can't remember where I saw them. Anyway, food for thought.

Gee, Irene, I'll forgive you your "stupidity" if you'll forgive "mine!" You can't imagine how many times I have written something that people have disagreed with.

Still, I would imagine that you might get a different commentary or two if you posted this at Freedom. In fact, I think I'll take a spin over there to see if you did.

Irene, I didn't consider you "stupid" nor do I believe anyone else that disagreed with your position believed that you were stupid. I just thought that it was pretty obvious that a lot of us migrated over here and not to the freedom forum because we were fairly sick of all the New World Order retoric. It is not like we have not heard it before. If, down the road, you all prove to be right..........well than I guess I will have been one of the frogs. Personally I would prefer to spend my energy in helping to break down the hatred than promote it.

Irene,

At the Free Congress website there is a dark blue column on the left side of the page. Click on the word search and it will bring up a page that lets you type in U.N. meeting in July. I hope that makes it clearer. I'm still learning to make my way around with these computers too :-).

Irene, I hope you know that just because most of us over here might probably disagree with this political viewpoint, doesnt mean you aren't welcome here! I sure hope you feel safe to post your heartfelt feelings here, cuz we actually love controversy, as long as its respectful.....

I, for one, really appreciated the way you reacted to the comments to your posts, and even though I actually pretty much agree with those who took you to task, I feel your HEART is in a similar place to most of ours....

I know what you mean about developing a thick skin......I think that is one very familiar life-long battle most of us can identify with!

I think we kinda pride ourselves at BTS for lovin a good, spirited, respectful, debate! (please forgive me for speakin for others)

Blessings,

Thanks, EM, for the post. I'm in a MAJOR hurry these next few days and don't have the time to do it. You said what I'd have liked to have said [thanks for channeling and saving me the time! ;-) ].

-- Anonymous, July 05, 2001

thanks EM, nicely said...............yes Irene, please do feel welcome and I am sorry if my posts made you feel not welcome. I tend to come on too strong with words sometimes..........strange, in real life I tend to be rather wishy-washy about expressing my mind most of the time. :>) Please do feel free to post here, but............be prepared for debate. Blessings.......and hugs

Bless you, Irene!

I love your spunk. If 10% of the people your age got involved with what's going on in the world, we wouldn't be in nearly so much doo- doo as we are in now. And yes, you've earned the right to speak out. Wish more would do the same.

You've only got 15 years on me Irene, so reserve a lawn bowling game for me, would you? Or is that only what "old" people do? :)
