asparugas ??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I heard that if you cut down your asparagus ferns you can get a fall crop? I am in zone 5 if that makes a difference. I also heard that you let the plants go till late winter because the ferns are what stores the energy for the next year. It would be nice to get a fall crop. My asparugas is 3 years old. Also salt as a weed control? Do you just cut the stalks to ground level and then put salt all over? thanks in advance Tracy

Salt will kill crab grass, etc. but not the asparagus. As far as a fall crop, that I do not know. I do know you are suppose to leave the ferns.

Hope this helps.
