I though this was an affair between two minor nobles, one down on his fortunes but not his pride and the other a crass, insulting bully with more clout and money. More a case of "class"(style) than caste.

The particularly nasty ways the nobility has of treating the lower classes is delightfully brought to bear in a deadly peer conflict.
