Headin' for them thar hills...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Well, Sis and I will be heading for "them thar hills"...aka: Kentucky, on Monday morning. Ryan is on temp duty at Ft. Knox, so we are going to run over and visit with him for a few days. Ft. Knox is located S. of Louisville near a town named Radcliff. We have already found a few things to go look at - the Coca Cola museum and the General George S. Patton museum, among others. Anybody know of anything else in that area to keep us occupied during the day while he's on duty? We'll only be there three days, I could probably occupy myself with a big stack of books and the swimmin' pool, but Sis and a TV in a little motel room will drive me nuts in pretty short order!!

On another note, I bought me a new Atlas - seein' as they've probably added a few roads since 1991, which is the date on the one I had. I picked this one up at Wally World. It's a Rand McNally, but they must be in cahoots with WM somehow, 'cause it has a list of all the Wal-Marts in each state, with their addresses and what all they offer, like vision, pharmacy, super or reg. WM. Who woulda thunk it?!

Well, hope you have a good time, Polly.

BTW, if you run into Sharon, tell her to check in here and let us know she's all right!

Polly isn't that where all the gold is? Go stare at it and come back and tell us what real wealth looks like!!!!! Kirk

Gosh Polly, come over to my house! I'm only 20 minutes from Radcliff, just south and a little west. Look on your map for Rineyville, I'm close to there. Hwy 220 goes west from 31W (main drag) just south of Radciff to Rineyville.

Radcliff is really an ugly town, nothin' pretty there. Otter Creek is pretty cool, and there's a nature conservatory and walk pretty close to Ft. Knox, I haven't been there yet. There's also a new space center if you're interested in that sort of thing. What are you going to be driving? Can you take any critters back with you? Too Cool.

Oh-oh...I need a longer vacation!! Cindy, I'd love to come by and see you all and all your critters and things - heck, I'll even bring my garden hat!! Too bad, I'm going to be driving the Neon (Barney- mobile to SOME people!) or I'd bring you a black and white chicken to go with the rest of your black and white critters!! Sis already has TWO bags packed - for 4 days - go figure! I'll be lucky to throw a couple of dresses and some underpants in a Wal-Mart bag and be able to fit them in the car with all her junk!

I'm going to drive over and visit with Sharon on Tuesday - one giggle fest, coming up!! I heard from her last night; and I will pass on all the caring that has been flowing toward her through here.

Kirk, I'll go look at the gold if they let me, but I only have to look around me and at this computer screen to see real wealth - friends and family; who could ask for more?!

See y'all in a few days!

Cindy I have an aunt that lives in Rineyville. She works at Fort Knox. She's a secretary to one of the big wigs!! Such a small world!

Wow, that is a small world. I wonder if I know her, Sandy. Polly, too cool you get to go see Sharon! And that's a pretty drive thru there too. I could send you home with some little bunnys or a free boy Border Collie from my friend. I could load the car up I'm sure! How long is Ryan stationed at Ft. Knox. And no, you cannot see the gold, they won't let you even near the place.

Ryan is scheduled to be there 6 weeks and he got there the last week of June. He has leave home scheduled the 2nd week of August, so we will probably only make the one trip over - at least to see him! Unless they (Army) change their mind and don't make him go back to Texas before he turns around and comes home.

Promise me that you WILL NOT show me the Border Collie!! I already have an unemployed Sheltie, plus the Hound from Hell. I can almost guarantee that Hubby would shoot me if I brought home another dog, but - Gee, I've always wanted a Border Collie.....

What was that game where it only took naming 7 people to get to some movie stars name?? I always get a kick when I go to another forum and "meet" someone I know from another forum who knows someone that I know from another forum, because they met them on yet another forum!

I'm gonna look on the map and see how far Shakertown is. That sounds really cool. Wednesday would be fine. I got your numbers you sent, and I can call you at the hotel too. You get some rest before you head out, and I'll call you Monday night.

(I can't email you because it says your server is out of disk space, now watch, you'll get like 3 emails from me all at once!)

Take pictures! Post them! If Sharon wants to hide behind a tomato plant, that's okay . . . .

Okay, I'm awake now - right in time to go to work! I'll post more later about my trip; but for right now, I just want to say how absolutley wonderful it was to meet Sharon and Nick and Cindy and Steve. They are just the same in person as they are on here - except funnier! Warm, caring, sharing, smart, funny.....I could go on and on, but if I do, I'll be late for work!

So stay tuned - same bat-time, same bat-channel! See you soon!
