TOMATOE PESTS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

WHILE WATERING MY TOMATOE PLANTS, I NOTICED WHITE SPECKS ALL OVER THEM. AFTER A CLOSER LOOK , THE WHITE SPECKS LOOK LIKE VERY SMALL ANTS BY THE THOUSANDS. AT THIS TIME THE PLANTS STILL LOOK HEALTHY. I USUALLY GO TO THE GARDEN IN EARLY MORNING AND LATE EVENING. HAV'NT NOTICED THEM IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU DJ

Sounds like aphids. Spray them down with the water hose and knock them off. If they are aphids try insectisdal{sp} soap or a garlic spray. Hope this helps. Sherry

Dressing the "feet" of a tomato plant with compost or vermicompost in a area about 12 inches in diameter helps control little creepy crawlies also.
