water troughs from fiberglass bath tubs?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

When I wanted a tub for retting flax in, my husband bid at a home center liquidation auction thinking it was for 1. He got 4 for minimal money. I've sold one to a lady for bathing her dogs but I only need one flax vat.

Does anyone know if there is a health hazard with the resins/materials in a new fiberglass tub to use it as a trough for our sheep and goats? Will it deteriorate in the sunlight?

I know someone on the forum has experience with such things and will thank you in advance for your input.

no problem they make fiberglass water tubs for livestock too and the deterioration should be minimal worst problem will be replacing it in in a decade or more with another

geez, you are smart! I'll have to remember this for goats in a year or two when we get them. up here you have to pay to throw tubs out. i'm sure i could find someone dying to not pay the per pound fee!
