Turkey on empty nest

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My hen turkey began sitting around the middle of May, I didn't see the actual nest but seen her come and go from it and since she had raised several hatchings before I let it be. Checked the nest out the first of July and not a egg in sight. She's still sitting, we've broke up what must have been her nest but she still sits there but does come for food. Our other hen turkey lost her sitting eggs and stays up on the limb of a tree. My egg loving Great Pyr helped herself to one nest and don't know about the one that's on the nest. These turkey are not the broad breated bronzes but are the good ole farm turkeys and aren't to large to breed and have raised their poults in the past. How do I break up the one sitting and I wonder if they'll go through another cycle of laying and sitting this year. Any turkey experts out there in computer land. I hooope this long drawn out post makes sense. Thanks in advance and be happy. Sherry

Just a thought - could you get a dozen poults from someone to slip under her? What you can get quickly might not be your ideal, but at least she'd be raising turkeys.
