Demolishing Plaster Walls

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I own an old farmhouse that is partially made of hewn logs, plastered over on the inside. One wall has the original cut stone fireplace, plastered over, and I have decided to uncover it.

The problem is that there is 3 1/2 to 4 inches of very sound plaster covering that wall. I have been beating on it for a full half hour with little effect.

Is there an easy way to remove plaster walls that a sledge hammer?

Many thanks....

Try a hammer and chisel and cut a hole about a foot wide. Then use that sledge hammer around the edges of the hole. Or take a pry bar and pry out from the hole. Make sense?....Kirk

Yup, but there's no hole. The fireplace opening was filled with 3 55"X16"X18" cut sandstone blocks. They must weigh half a ton a piece. How did they ever get them in there? And how am I ever going to get them out?

Put out a sign that says "Free Sandstone Blocks, You Remove" They'll be gone in a big hurry.
