Hello - (Introducing Myself)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just a little hello to say HI. I am in the Huntsville area of N. Alabama. Unfortunately don't have land, but sure know how to wish for a cabin on a hill with a stream. And no street lights at night unless I want to turn them on. If you've ever seen a picture of Deer Run cabin in Southern Living - that's about my dream house. Porch swing, rocking chair and rag rugs, etc. I read the forum during lunch each day and at the end of the day. Feels like visiting with distant family. If you become passworded, please let me know who I would have to ask to be able to continue to read (and maybe post once in a while.) I sew, read, crochet, haven't canned but may learn yet. Take care - all of you are special. Regards, Angie in N. Ala

Response to Hello -

Welcome Angie, I grew up just south of Huntsville in the Lacey's Spring/Morgan City area. I'm living in Vermont now, but dreaming of home. Hope to return there soon. This is a great forum for learning about all the things that you mentioned plus some. Hope to hear from you more often.

Hi Angie! I live "below" you....in Blount County just a little ways from the small county seat of Oneonta.

We have a 13 acre homestead (that we are still paying on.) We have a pretty large garden and some fruit trees and grape vines. I raise Angora rabbits and some other rabbits (for their fur, not to eat! Angora fur is cut off with scissors about twice each year)

I hope to hope to have Angora goats before the year is out. I am trying to learn to spin and knit and am saving for a spinning wheel.

I also have 25 chickens---my first chickens ever this year. I got them as day old chicks and they all lived!

I work as a newspaper reporter (21 years of that) but my office for both newspapers is at home!

To show you what my days are like....yesterday I canned 11 pints of apple jelly from our trees....and covered a controversial meeting about a pipeline that is proposed to slice up through Alabama including going by Huntsville, on its way into Tennessee.

Today I wrote and met with a politician for two hours; then interviewed a telephone company president; then back here to tend animals.

Welcome to the forum! There seems to be lots of "us type folk" lurking around in 'Bama! Suzy

Welcome Angie! Don't give up that dream. Lots of folks here had that country dream for many many years before it finally came true. Hanging out in the forum will give you lots of encouragment and ideas for when your ready for that cabin by the stream -- and even a prayer or two that it comes real for you. In the meantime, this is a great place to learn the ins and outs of country living so you will be ready when the time comes. Also, be sure and subscribe to Countryside magazine you won't believe the insight and help you get there! We here all live from issue to issue!

Nice to see you here. Look forward to your future postings on your progressions. The realization of a dream come true begins with a spark of desire. The folks on this board can help you fan it to a flame to light the way to that cabin.

Thanks for all the answers and kind thoughts. I keep reading and learning, and one day the time will be right and IT will work out. I do feel like it's getting closer. So I'll learn from all of you, and live a little vicariously also.

Angie
