Answers

Oy! I hope I can remember.

Renee O'Neill Sam Norris (Sam in W.Va) Cass -- Polly's friend (Matthew Strong on email) Dianne Bone

I think that's all so far.

I thought we had a second Debra, in NM, Debra Haden. She was on my list of CS folks that had open minds. Now I can't remember if she was ever invited, or if she was, if she ever posted. Does that name ring any bells with either of you?

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

Oh rats, I forgot to format!

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

Hi guys,

The only debra I'm familiar with is debra in NM (solid-dkn@msn.com). If there was another debra then I don't remember her.

Just sent a password to Laura Jensen (lrjensen@nwlink.com)

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

Just sent a password to Dee (gdgtur@goes.com)

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

Just sent a password to Cora-Vee (coravee@locl.net)

This was one of the hotmail account emails. Cora said that diane would vouch for her and I did get an email from diane confirming that.

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

That's all from me for tonight. I'll talk to you both more tomorrow.

-- Anonymous, July 14, 2001

I got an email from Alison Homa, in the UK, and I sent her the password this morning. She's just posted and now can't see her answers.

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2001

alison@mullacottfarm.co.uk

Sorry, I put the email on there, it just didn't come thru, I took the thingies off of it this time.

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2001

Sent the password to Dianne Konecny (aka willow@config.net). Annie Miller vouched for her.

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2001

That password for Allison bounced back to me. I've sent two now, I hope she's gotten it, she didn't post to her thread today.

-- Anonymous, July 15, 2001

Oh gee, I'd forgotten I'd done this. I gave a link to one of the posts on BTS to someone I know on another board. Now she's requested a password to the forum. It's Carolyn Cariens, currently the last email on the hotmail list.

I had NO idea that she was reading the board, it was something like a recipe or something that I mentioned. I know nothing to her detriment. I'm just sitting here wondering if I want these two sides of my life to overlap . . . . I think I'll wait until tomorrow to decide.

BTW, I agree that to the suggested changes in that blurb I wrote up for Countryside. We definitely don't want them to repeat their emails.

What happened with Sojourner/Holly's question if she is in or out? Did someone give her an answer?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I would not let Soj in. Don't do anything yet. I do believe that's the one Sharon was reffering to. We (me and Sharon) did talk about her a bit on the phone, and she is just upsetting to Sharon. Argumentive for no reason.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I am really beginning to feel the best way for someone to get in is to be referred by a member, and then ask if anyone has a problem with it. We can't just let all those who request passwords in, or it will be as big as CS. ESPECIALLY after you post the thread about it at CS! (that would eliminate the problem of WHO is really behind that email address!)

Also, in the case of Patty, Polly has said no, and I say no, so that's 2 so far, just wait? I would like Sharon's input on her. I don't want to be the bad guy either, but members should feel comfortable, that was the gist of the whole forum.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Hi guys,

I've had a chance to think over the statement that Joy crafted yesterday. Do we really want to post it over a CS right now or will we be inundated with even MORE email requests for the password by othetr folks wanting in?

I'm beginning to think that most of the people that have already requested the password should not get in. None of them are really getting any ringing endorsements over on BTS. Not like the endorsements I've received for Cora-Vee or Dianne Konecny.

What do you both think?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

It wouldn't hurt my feelings NOT to post it. I think we'll be bombed with more requests.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I'm getting the sense that most of the people are in favor of allowing in MOST of the people on the list that Cindy posted. I think that means no for most the people who want to just lurk.

There are a few more emails that have come in. I don't know who Phillippe, looking for the rainbow in BC, is, so I say no to him. Carolyn (Gary) Cariens is someone I know from another board (see one of my posts above) -- Yarrow knows her too, so I am consulting with her to see if we really want her reading this board, especially if we start getting into spirituality issues.

Sissy Sylvester-Barth wants in -- she hasn't posted with us, but seems okay from the CS posts. Should we ask the members about her? Teresa Bourgoin has posted about 4 times, don't know where she came from (one was about her friend chasing a bear in her underwear, remember that?). Mike and Amber turns out to be Amber in WA, I think she's okay. Lots of folks greeting her when she turned up, but we can ask for input on that if you want.

I am okay with waiting longer to see what input Cindy can get from Sharon about her comfort level.

I'm thinking that we should STRONGLY request that people post at least once a week, even if it's just to say their tomatoes are ripe or whatever. Obviously if it goes, for two or even three weeks, not really a big deal. But we should make it clear that we expect participation!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

It's me again. I'm feeling a bit better today so I'm breaking my self- imposed exile and checking the forums today. :-)

I don't know who Phillippe, looking for the rainbow in BC, is, so I say no to him.

Agreed

Carolyn (Gary) Cariens is someone I know from another board (see one of my posts above) -- Yarrow knows her too, so I am consulting with her to see if we really want her reading this board, especially if we start getting into spirituality issues.

It's no problem with me if you're comfortable having her on the forum.

Sissy Sylvester-Barth wants in -- she hasn't posted with us, but seems okay from the CS posts. Should we ask the members about her?

If you guys want to ask the members about her that's fine with me. Her name sounds familiar to me but I can't say that I know her.

Teresa Bourgoin has posted about 4 times, don't know where she came from (one was about her friend chasing a bear in her underwear, remember that?).

I vaguely remember that post. I'm not sure what to do about her (if we should let her in or not)...

Mike and Amber turns out to be Amber in WA, I think she's okay. Lots of folks greeting her when she turned up, but we can ask for input on that if you want.

I don't have a problem with Amber coming to the forum.

I am okay with waiting longer to see what input Cindy can get from Sharon about her comfort level.

I think sharon was uncomfortable with Sojourner. But I don't know who else she may have had a problem with.

I'm thinking that we should STRONGLY request that people post at least once a week, even if it's just to say their tomatoes are ripe or whatever. Obviously if it goes, for two or even three weeks, not really a big deal. But we should make it clear that we expect participation!

Hmmmmmm, I have to say that I'm not too comfortable with this idea - unless you're only talking about the lurkers? I'm concerned that might be too draconian. But that's my opinion, you both might disagree with me on that matter, though...

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Cindy wrote: "I am really beginning to feel the best way for someone to get in is to be referred by a member, and then ask if anyone has a problem with it. We can't just let all those who request passwords in, or it will be as big as CS."

I guess I agree with that. Are we asking the members to actually vouch for someone, rather than just say they don't know anything bad about them or they're probably okay?

Put names up to the board and ask for input? I wish I had a better sense of the comfort level of some of the folks. And I still think we, the mods, should have a REAL email addy from folks that we aren't entirely sure of. J.R.Guerra has asked for access as well -- he's posted a number of times and seems nice.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I guess we were posting at the same time, Jim. Glad you feel better today, and I hope it lasts!

Okay, I don't want to be Draconian, but I'd like to somehow get across the idea that we want people to participate, to show interest in being a part of things, to let us all get to know each other. I'm not happy with people just laying back and reading and never saying anything.

Gotta go, back later!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Still no answer from Sharon. She did have a problem with Soj and Mitch also.

Sissy-Sylvester Barth....the newspaper reporter I think. If she hasn't posted before, why does she want in now? I didn't read the email so I don't know what she said. She was in Florida, don't know where she lives now.

Safest to ask the members or just tell them no in a nice way. Did anyone else get any private emails with comments, I haven't gotten any more yet.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Yep, I understand what you're saying, Joy. At this point I'm not sure how to handle it so I'll move on to other topics for now.

Here's a short list of folks that I think should get in:

Yes List

Alison Homa (sandybeach@bournemouth.co.uk)

Amber in WA (quillen6@netzero.net)

jz (oz49us@yahoo.com)

Jorja Hernandez (jorja@color-country.net)

JR Guerra (jrguerra@boultinghousesimpson.com)

Elizabeth (Lividia66@aol.com) (this is NOT the same Elizabeth that made the innuendos against sharon over at CS)

Maybe List

Rick Hostetler (Osulphus@aol.com)

Terry - NW Ohio (aunt_tm@hotmail.com)

Another Terry in Ohio but can't think of her name or email address.

That's all I can think of right now - If I think of other names to add to the list then I'll do so. So don't take this list as the final say on who I'm comfortable with inviting.

That's all for now. I'll be checking in again around 4:30 pm CDT.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Alison Homa got the password allready. She wrote me back a bit ago and said yes she got it.

The rest on your list Jim seem fine to me. I've got to get some things done around here also. I check in at the same time. 5:30 my time. Wonderful that you're feelin better Jim!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

It's 5:30, there's a Phil Jensen in the mailbox. Don't think I know him. Are you guys here?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

It's 5:30, there's a Phil Jensen in the mailbox.

You'd better let him out as I'm sure he's quite cramped in there! :-D

Sorry, I couldn't help it. It just struck me funny... :-)

I'm just checking in (5:45 pm CDT). How do you guys think we should proceed from here?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Oops! That should have said 4:45 pm CDT.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

That's what I needed, a good laugh! I was expecting something serious! Well, just go with the list you had up above most recently, invite those, and we'll have to write a "sorry" letter for the others.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Do you know Phil?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

There's no more on CS, just checked before I came here, there's only 8 up on that list, that's not allot. I don't think anyone in the forum has any problems with those.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Well, just go with the list you had up above most recently, invite those, and we'll have to write a "sorry" letter for the others.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking, too. What do you think, Joy?

Do you know Phil?

Nope. His name is not ringing any bells.

P.S. - Glad you got a laugh out of that. I was chuckling pretty good, too, as I wrote it. :-D

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I see with Phil Jensen's request that we're continuing to get a steady trickle of email requests from people wanting in to BTS.

Do you guys think I should take down the hotmail address from BTS so we stop getting these emails? That way it will give us a chance to work on those that are already waiting for an answer.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

BTW, I'm gonna be getting offline now as Ruthy is on her way home from work and I need to get supper going.

I'll be back on tonight around 9:00 pm CDT.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

See ya Jim Bob. I don't know about the last question. What email addy is on the password page, I'll have to look. There should be some addy there, I quess. What do you think Joy?

BTW, I'm not on the BTS mailing list, could you put me on it please, I won't cause noooo trouble, I just want to lurk. he he he

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Okay, I did my cruise of all your messages here, and the hotmail, and comments on BTS before replying.

Sissy-Sylvester Barth -- a reporter? I thought that was Suzy in 'Bama. Anyway, Sissy lives in Arizona now I think, near Flagstaff, not that it matters. I have nothing against her, but it you two say no, that's okay. Or we can ask everyone else at BTS.

The YES list: All okay with me. Did Jorga request a password? Anyway, she was an original invitee and non-controversial.

Maybe list:

All okay with me, I think the "second Terry" is really Vickie somewhere in Ohio.

I have to cruise around and see who else I would recommend. I think the other Rick is okay. We might need to set him straight on some things, but I think he'd be okay. Diane was the one who got cranky with him and now she says he's okay.

I take Sharon doesn't have an answering machine.

I thought the same thing about Phil in the mailbox! LOL! I'm not sure it really IS Phil -- I think it might be a woman and that's her husband's addy, but I have nothing concrete to hang that one on. However his/her reasons for not posting may warrant some email discussion with this person.

Yarrow and I concur on NOT giving the password to Carolyn Cariens. We don't like that she's just been lurking. Also, we're not so sure she'd be friendly to some of our future discussions and we don't necessarily want her knowing those aspects of our lives. She can get one of the sorry Jane letters. I'll probably email her privately and do a little more soothing, and suggest she hang out at CS if she's interested in homesteading.

Not sure about leaving the addy there or taking it off. Soon I'll be gone and not able to help for about five days, so I guess I'll leave it up to you two. I guess there will be a trickle. There might be people who have been away and not noticed the upsets.

Probably more from me later.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

What email addy is on the password page, I'll have to look. There should be some addy there, I quess.

It's the hotmail email address that folks have been using to send us requests for the password. You see it on the page when you try to log into BTS.

I've temporarily changed it to say: temorarily_disabled@none.here.com

I'll change it back after things settle down a bit and we get the current requests handled.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I didn't add her because I don't know much about her. Her request may have to put on the back burner for now.

Did Jorga request a password? Anyway, she was an original invitee and non-controversial.

As of yet, no. I'll send her the password, though.

Maybe list:
All okay with me, I think the "second Terry" is really Vickie somewhere in Ohio.

You may be right on that, Joy. Cindy does that name sound right? I don't have her email address. Do either of you guys have it?

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Sent passwords to these three people:

Amber in WA (quillen6@netzero.net)

jz (oz49us@yahoo.com)

Jorja Hernandez (jorja@color-country.net)

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Sent passwords to these two people:

Elizabeth (Lividia66@aol.com)

I've been a busy boy...

I've sent dear Jane/John letters to quite a few of the lurkers that reqested a password. If you guys log into the hotmail account you'll see there's only 11 or so left to deal with.

I sent a dear jane email to Dee Engstrom and got a somewhat snotty reply back from her. I had a much easier time sending denials to others on the list after reading it.

Subj: Re: Password
Date: Jul 16 2001
From: Dee and Galen Engstr...
----------------------------------------------------------------
That's ok. It's obviously been a very "cliquish" board from the beginning that I would never feel comfortable posting on, but it did have some interesting topics to read.

Dee

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Sent passwords to:

Rick Hostetler Osulphus@aol.com

Terry - NW Ohio-- aunt_tm@hotmail.com

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Now there are only maybe nine left in the hotmail account that need to be dealt with. I heading for bed, guys. 'night!

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Oh, and I sent a password to vicki in NW OH thga76@aol.com...

NOW I'm done for the night.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Oh, uh huh, we're supposed to feel sorry that we LIKE each other and have a good time? Give me a break. I thought we were very welcoming to people that popped in out of nowhere, with no introduction. "Cliquish" indeed! :-/

Jim, shall I send the Dear Jane letter to my acquaintance, Carolyn Cariens? That way, I can send a personal email right after it and not get myself in trouble on the other board. Also I really don't want to hurt her feelings.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Fooey, forgot this: vicki in NW OH thga76@aol.com -- we just issued a welcome to her recently. She seems okay, did an introduction and responded to some threads, seems to want to participate. from the list I compiled.

I THINK that's the one you're thinking of . . .

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Oops, I guess I didn't hit refresh soon enough! ;-)

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Ok, your right Joy, that's Suzy. I don't one way or the other about Sissy.

You guys been busy tonight. I would still go with the referred by a member thing, if they have never posted over here before. I think if they have never posted, and want a password, they are just reading. Just my thoughts. We're letting the few in who have actually been given welcomes or posted a few times as not to welcome them and then shut them out.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

Yeah, no answering machine. It just rang and rang for 2 days. I think everything is ok though, she would've emailed somethng if we had put THEIR names up on the board.

-- Anonymous, July 16, 2001

I was on BTS tonight and noticed the changes in the thread. Diane emailed me and asked me to take some of her stuff off as she was uncomfortable with the others comming in and reading the thread. So I edited it a bit, and took off the stuff that sounded funny from hers and the part about deleting the thread from mine. Sounds better and not so tacky. She had one post she wanted taken off all together and I did that for her.

Diane dosen't like the part of talking about the "second forum" and joking about it, making her uncomfortable for the newbies to see. I sent ya'all an email hoping you might get them tonight. But as soon as you come on if you can delete them Jim, would probably be best if it makes her uncomfortable. I did say on that thread that we could delete it first, so as not to hurt anyones feelings. I just did not want to delete them without talking to you first. Thanks.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

I'm okay with deleting it or modifying it so that most of the "sensitive" stuff is gone.

If we delete it, probably should move Rick H's post to another thread, maybe Over the Fence Chat or something.

Gee, I don't know what to say about the joking about a second forum. We're not perfect -- should we be hiding our warts? Who is she worrying about offending?

There are 3 names at the top of the thread still -- Daryll, Rick (the other one), and Jack Bunyard. I think they'd be okay, any opinion from you two?

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

Sharon said she didn't know that Rick. I don't know, we can still take the threads down and leave them for consideration right now. I know Diane just felt really bad about talking about it all with the others comming in. She was concerned about that from the start of the thread. thanks.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

I'm not really sure what to do about those last three names. I'm having a gut feeling that we should say no to at least Rick K and maybe Daryll, too.

But I don't know if my gut feeling is right or not...

Yeah, I had been deleting names as I sent them and invitation. I didn't take the time to re-read the thread to see if there was anything that sounded sensitive.

I'm not sure if we should delete the whole thread or not...

Diane dosen't like the part of talking about the "second forum" and joking about it, making her uncomfortable for the newbies to see.

I guess I missed that part. On which thread is there talking and joking about Walden Two? I guess I'll have to post something over there about Walden Two and what we're using it for.

I'm gonna get offline now as I've got to take care of a few things around here. I'll be back online at around 11:00 am CDT.

-- Anonymous, July 17, 2001

I'm back online (11:05 am CDT). I've started a new thread because this one was getting quite long: link
